not bad for the first time with a welder. do look into a gas conversion, its makes the process easier IMO, plus as stated, better welds.
As Ian said, practice, practice, practice!!!!
The other thing too is that each person picks things up differently, like for example, Ian finds it easier to tig aluminum then steel, where I picked up steel far easier then aluminum. Now stainless is a totally different story no matter what process you use. (back gassing is very important when welding stainless regaurdless of weld process).... IMO, stainless is the hardest steel to weld. I'd rather sit down with some 4130 Chromoly or mild steel then stainless anyday.
