Hey.. I KNOW its beed discussed, ive searched and read up on what i found, but i still havent seen on person yet that has commented on a rabid chimp motor they have purchased. I want to know if anyone has actually purchased one yet? I am most likely going to pick it up in the next day or two but i want to see if anyone has comments to make about it. I understand that i could rebuild myself, but i dont have the time to. I work and goto school and need my car for a ~100 mile round trip to school every day. I currently have a BHG and its leaking oil from seals. That and it has 193k miles on it. I know its $2k but it will be basically drop in weekend job if i set it up right which is what i need. Any intelligent flameless input is appreciated. Thanks guys, i value your opinions *which is why i posted this before i almost sent payment about 5 minutes ago.:biglaugh:

i was wondering this too. if you do end up going with the Rabid GTE, then please post up a lengthy review with pix. thanks.

Plan to... sounds like a good deal, i know it wont have new bearings and such but with a 1 year warranty and such, and a good maintenence schedule with good oil, im sure itll be good to me.

$2000 is a high price for my taste, I could put some work in and do my own rebuild for that much.

My cheapness aside it looks like a good deal, especially with the 1 year warranty.

yeah well i think im gonna part out the old motor minus the shortblock, and rebuild it on my spare time... so when the 1 year warranty is up i can throw in the rebuilt bottom end. I cant afford the downtime for a rebuild like i said in the first post... i work 6a-1130am...come home and shower...leave for school at 1215. get there at 1:15 (130 if i stop for food...) start class at 150, leave at 805..get home at 9-915...and cruise sm then sleep. I work on saturdays usually too so i dont have alotta spare time.

Stupid suggestion:
You could always just go N/A for the down time why you do the rebuild, buy a GE and everything to put it in would cost you maybe $800-$1000.

Put the money you wouldve spent on the Chimp engine into rebuilding yours.

why? it already has a mhg, a one year warranty, good compression, new seals, and its complete. I can make back 1/4 what im spending, parting out the old motor in the meantime and have a 1 year guarantee. Wheres the loss? i could then take my time getting the best stuff i can for building my new bottom end and take my time doing it. I thought this out. Its not about the money, I can earn money. I want something reliable and im not willing to take a step down. I already spent the money on the chimp theres no need to try to un-convince me. I did my research.

haha its okay... check post #6.. i wouldnt even consider dropping in a GE. It wouldnt be worth the time, if that were the case id just replace my hg with a stocker and stock head bolts n deal wit the oil leak i already had. my priorities fell on a motor i could reliably drop in and not blow the hg. This fit the bill.

I'll stand aside Rabid Chimp. I always go to their site to check it out. Personally, I've never ordered through them, although I've got a hand full of friends with MKII's (RC specializes in MKII's), and although it was dealing with 5M & 6M's, their quality, parts and overall business they have going for them is FTW. Anyone considering buying parts or the motor through them would be very pleased!

There, Jspec shedded some light, so..."dooda damn'd thang". ;)

I am looking at getting set up with a chimp longblock for the whole downtime thing as well. I figure that my dad and I should be able to swap the newly rebuilt block in over a weekend. My current motor has 190K on it, and cylinder one is down to about 30 psi of compression

I'll take lots of photos on my new camera when the swap commences

30 psi... ouch...thats REALLY bad. When do you plan to buy the motor? I'd talk to ron about it, as my motor(the Rabid) is still in the R-C machine shop as we speak. You might want to make sure they have one in stock when you decide to go for it.

Yeah, I've been driving it with that kind of compression for far too long, getting together all of the other replacement parts before ordering the block, but it is my goal to have a Chimp longblock under the hood before school starts in fall

hows the idle? sheesh.. must be really bad... how often do you have to fill up your radiator? do you have intermix?

I have only had to add coolant twice in the last 6 months, the idle is noticably rough when the engine is cold, but after it warms up the ilde isnt all that bad, of course its been a while since I've been in it with out the compression issue (my best friends dad bought it brand new for $32,0000 in 1991)
