Yeah, it sucks and it was my fault. I was approaching an X shaped intersection on an overpass over a 4-lane highway. You know, the kind where one set of lights controls traffic for the ramps on both sides of the overpass? Well, I was undecided about stopping for the light, so I did. And I ended up past the light. I just decided to go on, crossed the bridge and met the traffic crossing my lane off the ramp. I didn't see them and they couldn't see me until it was too late. One car missed me, the other car, well, didn't. Neither of us was going very fast, her airbag didn't deploy. Her older 4-door sedan suffered a scratched bumper. My sup's door took 90% of the impact. There is some good news to these pictures. The mirror is fine, the door handle is fine, the front rust-free mudflap is fine and, believe it or not, the door molding only suffered minor scratches. On the inside, the door panel is fine. The lower body panel right behind the door has scratches. The lower body panel in front of the door has a serious dent. What I'm really worried about is the frame. The rocker panel below the door has paint peeled off of it but there are no dents that I can see. But seeing the paint peeled off makes me believe it took some of the impact. I drove the car home, it drove straight. Yes, the targa top was on during the accident.
I'm going to get another door (Mike, if you're reading this, you see what I need ) And I will see about getting that dent popped out behind the front tire. And if you've followed my other thread, you know I just got my car appraised for insurance purposes, so no one is going to total the car. I'll take the car back to the guy that painted it last summer. I think I can get it all repaired for under a $1,000. I think the other car's repairs will run around the same $. I haven't wrecked a car in 20 years, so I wonder what they'll do with my insurance.
Oh, and I didn't suffer any damage. I guess this is the risk you take every time you drive your car. If I can't drive the car for fear of wrecking it, then whats the point?
