Upon closer inspection it looks like the upper edge of the rocker panel has been caved in. It meets the mudflap flush, but in the rear, there's a gap of about 1/4". Any thoughts on repairing a rocker panel?

Stud style dent puller(has a gun that welds copper studs to it,then puller hooks to them, pull dent, then cut the studs back off. This instead of the old style ones that you have to drill holes in the car to use.)Any competent body shop will have one.And the rocker panel actually dents/pulls out fairly easy.

Looks like you got your car appraised just in time. :) (You did get an agreed value policy from your insurance company, right)? ;)

Just make sure that the work done on your car is up to your expectations, and don't sign anything saying that you're happy with the work completed until you look over EVERYTHING that the shop repaired. Good luck, and I'm sure you'll come out fine.

Glad to hear that no one was hurt.

Will call the insurance company on Monday. Not sure what they'll think of me getting used parts from Mike, but really, what choice do I have? I'll see if Dream Machines, who did the original paint, can do the work. I have some other touch-ups I want done anyways. I just don't want it stuck there for 3 months again!

damn that was such a clean car.Well at least you guys are okay and at least the car is fixable.

The other driver was a lady in her 60's. I scared the holy shit out of her!! She was white as a ghost! She never saw it coming, she didn't even brake. To me it was like slow motion, but so were my reactions so I couldn't save the Sup. However, three things crossed my mind in this order:
- HOLY SHIT! THOSE CARS ARE COMING RIGHT AT ME!
- I am going to get hit!
- OH SHIT, I'M DRIVING THE SUPRA!

Ohhhh Tracy! :(

I'm glad you're okay.

Regardless of how easy it is to repair it...
That really hurt seeing those pictures on such a beautiful Supra!

But since we know you are okay...

............This better not be an excuse to not making it to the meet!

Sucks about the car as you know how much I love it. Have no doubts you'll have her fixed in no time.

Well, it did take some time to get 'er fixed, 2 months. But, warm weather has arrived and we are back on the road:

A few dollars lighter too :( But, since there was downtime, there were opportunities for improvement:

New console cover (PM Empera, they're like $30, easy to install):

And if you follow any of my threads on exhausts, you know I hate the coffee can look. So I got one. Someone made me one helluva deal on a very nice 3" stainless steel tanabe exhaust w/hi-flow cat (thanks M! ;))
tanabe.jpg

The exhaust is a bit louder than my stock one, but I'm adjusting well. Especially to the increase in power.

But not all went well with my PS door. I still have an issue with the door molding that I had before the accident. All the molding tabs have been fixed, but I still have a "wave" in the door molding. See pics:

Anyone have suggestions?? I'm considering just buying new moldings for both doors. The other door is much flatter, but still has slight "waves".

Car goes back for one day to fix the PS door glass. It leaves a gap at the targa. It is a light gray factory tint with scratches in it. My other door has a bronze tint (interior used to be red). I'm getting both replaced so I can tint them to match and there won't be any scratches. Plus, the glass can be adjusted on the PS. I have some minor electrical issues to chase. My original 90 wiring harness for the door had to be salvaged because this door was from an 88 and they differed. Window button won't work and the locks are messed up. I anticipate some cleaning is in order.

Overall, I'm just glad to be back behind the wheel. Now maybe we can hit some Supra meets.

wow, they did a pretty good job..

the door should have worked fine, I have an 86/87 driver's side door on my 89 and everything works fine; it's the passenger side that doesn't (go figure)...

as for the window not going up, check and see if there's an issue with the swich, or if something maybe needs to be grounded? not too sure on that, but hope you get it figured out..

Just glad to see it is back. So you liking the exhaust.:evil2:

On the molding I believe they use double sided tape. Noah used it on his.

Go to radio shack and get a 3m heavy duty double sided tape. Been using in my molding since 2007 and it's still on.

:) looks all better now!

I think maybe if one of the white clip-on tabs shifted on your molding it could be offset enough to cause the molding to bunch up like that. Was the molding area hit during the accident? When they reattached the clip they might not have aligned it quite right.

Can't find the thick double-sided tape that toyota originally used. I know its by 3m. They tried lots of tape plus an adhesive, and it still waves. The waviness was in the molding prior to the accident. You're right rtrdpenguin, it could be where those clips don't line up properly because they had to be repaired. Oh well, will ask Jeff how much a new set costs.

The PS door locks/buttons are all fixed. Got bored, tore it all apart this evening. Some minor adjustments on the bar that moves the lock, plus the bar that triggers the locking mechanism from the key was not hooked up at all. Window button just needed a good cleaning. I just hate when buttons don't work ;)

The clip may be there and look to be fine but if one of the prongs that holds it into the hole is broke off or old enough to not pop out when you push it in then its useless, To somebody who doesn't know about them if their worn down or old it'll look normal but it'll do something exactly like that.

Probably even more so toward the front of the door because the front of the molding right up there is bolted down with a nut.
