Why dont the people at autozone, pepboys, strauss, etc HAVE NO Clue when it comes to cars?

Hey when ever i go into one of these place's for a part 9 out of 10 times the person is a moron. They know nothing about cars. Most of them dont even have any sense of automotive knowledge besides be able to drive (if that)

Two days ago i went in a autozone in brooklyn,NY. I needed a brake booster for my mk3.
the guy said-We only carry fuel boosters for more power. We dont have anything in stock to make you stop faster. I might be able to order it

i wanted to slap him. I said are you kidding me?

he said-we do restocking on tuesday and then he tried to sell me a brake cleaner and said try cleaning them it might help you stop better.

I walked out i walked out laughing and feeling disturbed at the same time.

Am i the only one who feels this way about theses people?

Hang on are you saying they Don't have no clue? meaning they actually have a clue?

You walked out twice? (and just who is "disturbed" and why were you feeling him?)

Confused this post hurts my brain.

I went into a parts store the other day. I needed a fuel fitting. I brought the pump in with me.

"I need an o-ring fitting just like this one I have in my hand, to screw into this pump."
"Let me take a look at that. Yeah, looks like 1/2". This one will work"
-Tries to screw it in-
"Dude, your threads are fucked up on your pump"
"It's metric"
"Metric? We don't sell that kind of stuff"

I went back the next day because I needed another hose fitting for something else (about the only place that sells them in town unfortunately), and the metric fitting I needed previously was right on the shelf. He wouldn't let me look through his shelf because "they don't carry that stuff".

I bought my two overpriced hose fittings and left.

I hate that..Everytime i go to oreillys or autozone there are usually girls behind the counter who have no clue about anything on a car. And on top of that, they act like they hate their job and dont want to be there AND talk on their cell phones instead of helping customers.

I went to autozone a few months back to look for your standard Bosch relay. Guy came over to me and asked "Can I help you find anything?"
"Yea, i'm looking for a relay."
"for what kind of car?"
"Just a normal bosch style relay."
"okay one sec... <goes over to computer and types away> ... Can you be more specific, i need to know what type of vehicle."
"No, you don't."
"Well, if its not on the shelf we don't carry it."
"Gr. Okay thanks." I browsed around the store... and found 2. In the ricer accessories section next to floormats. WTF?

I walked up to the counter with it and I don't think the guy even registered what it was I had. The fucking bosch relay. Ugh. Anytime I need parts, I go to CarQuest, or Napa. Most of the time those people actually know what they're doing.

While I buy most OEM parts at the local Dealership (With a huge discount!), I buy universal stuff like relays and whatnot from the parts stores. I always go to the locally owned/operated CarQuest. The guys there are amazing, and absolutely bend over backwards to get you the right stuff, and make sure you're satisfied.

NAPA used to be that way, but then a bunch of morons started working there. Needless to say, I haven't been there since.

My thoughts exactly... One girl that worked there argued with me that Toyota didnt make the Supra.. Honda made the Supra and Toyota made the Eclipse... I just shook my head (as the manager was slapping his forehead), turned around and walked out..

We are pretty lucky. The local Toyota dealer knows us by name, and the guys at Auto Zone and O'Riley's refer to me as "Jay's wife? Yeah, you have the white one." So they are half way familiar with our cars.

Stuff you don't want off the shelf..... Driftmotion, Champion Toyota, HorsePower Freaks, Summit Racing, SupraSport are all great to deal with.

The guys at the local Napa know what they're doing, as do a few of the guys at Advance. When I go to the local dealer I show up with the part number for what I need (and I get a discount).

The guys I've dealt with at the local AZ don't know a wrench from a quart of oil.

It's a corporate thing - they want people to be easily replaceable. This is why when I go to Radio Shack and ask them about anything, they know nothing. They probably wouldn't even know what to say if I asked them about the the polarity of their resistors.

I walked into my neighborhood Autozone one day because I need rod bearings for my 1989 Mazda RX7 GL.

It took him 15 minutes to tell me that they can't find them in the system.

It took me 15 minutes to stop ROFL-ing on the way back home.

Me and my buddy did that, except we called about a new throttle body for "my" 2003 F250 diesel, when he couldn't find it, we asked if he had the right plugs for it.

The carquest I use is kind of full of slow people, better than the other major chains but not by much. On the upside I get a mad crazy discount there though.

And why is stuff at Autozone and the like organized so ass end backwards?
