I've done some searching on here and SF and I just want to hear from the guys that put the stock 2jz cams into the 1jz. So far I know that some of the cam has to be machined to fit into the 1jz. I'm trying to find out some dyno numbers (butt dyno's would be useful as well) to see if it's worth doing.

I read that putting in the cams would bring the powerband all the way to redline. We all know the stock 1jz runs out of power at around 6100 or so. I just want to find out some solid answers and gains from using the 2jz cams.

I also want to find out where you guys got them machined. I just want someone that knows what needs to be done to the cams so they will fit and not screw anything up.

Thanks for looking.

They worked out just fine for me. Really easy to machine just put on a lathe. You just have to make the cam surface smaller on them and make the thrust surface wider on the exhaust cam just make sure you widen it by the front side of the surface ie: the rear of the cam seal journal.

iirc psifactor on here has dyno of them.

^^^what he said, i have a local machine shop that did mine. like aphxero said, the oil seal part has to be machined down to fit the 1JZ oil seal and the exhaust cam has to be widened a lil bit. shop that did mine charged me 40 bucks for the machining on it.

never had my car on stock twins or on the stock cams, just went straight to single with the 2j cams. but it pulls all the way up to redline, never feels like its running out of breath

Do you think that I would be able to pay you to take mine to your machinist? I'll ship them to you and I'll prepay the return shipping. $40 is a pretty good price and he has done it before. PM me if you would be interested in making some money.

When i compared them to my 1jz cams when they were out, it was all just lathe work.

Honestly you might think i'm nuts, but

I'd rather modify the head to fit 2JZGTE cams, instead of modifying the cams.

Shane Wahl's 1994 MKIV. (shane101518 on sf)

He is a pretty big name in the Supra community, you can verify with him that they are his cams, and from his engine. He was doing over 600whp with em.

So if I had some stock 2JZ cams, what part exactly needs to be machined to fit?
And if I wanted to have high performance cams could I buy some for the 2JZ and get them machined to fit?

crower and bc make some cheaper alternatives... not quite as good (the 264s, due to less lift) but work great over the stockers

With all the effort needed in the purchase of new shims, retainers, springs, stem seals... shit man, you might as well spend the extra $200 and get good cams from Jun or HKS.

Why what? You're telling me you're going thru all the effort to install cams for higher RPM on a japanese junkyard motor that's been sitting for 10 years in a field, and not installing new valve stem seals, not properly shimming the cam to the cam specs, and not putting in aftermarket valve springs and retainers to take advange of the new cam's powerband? HKS 264's breathe good til 9500rpms. Stock springs float at 8000ish depending on turbo.

is 200$ worth an extra 10-15 hp? not to me really..
