I have an "81 Celica GT I am currently driving around in the snow. I'm thinking of making it my winter beater. However, I do drive my JZA70 year-round as it does quite well in the snow with good snow tires. The fact that its quite heavy doesn't do any harm either. Obviously both the cars are RWD, I have found that I get around on snow and ice better than most FWD cars.
I have encountered exactly one hill that I could not drive up. It was a good 45 degrees, about 400m long and covered in ice. I didn't have enough momentum and I was kinda fucking around, spinning my tires the whole way and I lost all traction about 10m short of the crest. I could have made it if I didn't floor it and kept the grip that I had at the bottom of the hill. And that was in my Celica with all-seasons before I changed to snow tires. All I did was back down, turn around and take the long way around as I didn't care to fuck around and dodge retarded people with summer tires all the way back up again.
People that don't get winter tires and sit halfway up a hill with their hazards on holding up those of us who know that the lower mainland has 4 seasons and prepare accordingly piss me off. Learn to drive in the snow people! Get a good set of winter tires and use them in winter, summer tires don't cut it in 6" of snow!
