I am looking to replace the capacitors for my 1JZ ECU and was wondering if there are any online sites that sell the values I need.

I believe these are the values I need. Correct me if I am wrong.

15uF 35V
47uF 63V
33uF 35V
100uF 10V
220uF 10V

Thanks,

Steve

Jameco or digikey. Although, if you aren't sure which caps you need, I'd recommend leaving it to the professionals (Aaron @ Driftmotion takes care of these)

I actually do component level repairs on electrical components in my spare time ;)

Oh God, be careful with that. I've seen way too many people burned. Just because someone can solder, does NOT mean they know the first thing about electronics!

I only ordered the parts as a safeguard so to speak. I am bringing the ECU down to my friend this week for him to have a look at it but if I feel it won't get done right I will send it to Aaron.

Thanks for the help again,

Steve

Good...we can blame you for not pointing out the mistake he just made. Then again you suggested he send it to Aaron so I guess it's a wash ;)

rofl - the OPs looking for caps. If he doesn't know where to get them, or what kind, I have to suggest his/her best course of action based on that information, is to send it to a pro to take care of it ;)

It's nothing personal to the OP. Caps have to be installed a specific way. You install them backwards, and BOOM. Or at least oozy doom.

And yes JJ - Oozy doom is an industry term. At least around the PC Shop it is ;)

Oozy doom? Guess I've been out of that racket too long ;)

It's not so much the polarization as the low working voltage on two of those. I wouldn't use 10 volt caps even if that's what was previously in there. Especially if they're electrolytic, which it sounds like they are. Depends on what voltage the circuit they're in runs at though. Aaron would know if they'd hold up. Myself, I still wouldn't use them. There are higher ratings in equal or smaller size packages available these days.

Whoa, good catch! Like I said, I didn't even really read the OP's post. I'd use 16v caps, depending on what voltage they see in the circuit.

As a matter of fact, the only place I can think off hand that the stock circuitry would step down in voltage, would be the 5v reference line for the sensors - but I don't think they use 220uF caps in there.

Aaron's going to be your best source of info on it. AFAIK, practically all the caps in the ECU are electrolytic, radial configuration. Been a while since I tore a stocker open, though.

Also, I mention the polarization, because I'd wager 85% of the people I talk to that 'know' electronics, have no idea that caps have to be installed in the correct fashion. I've replaced so many caps on motherboards that others have attempted to fix. New cap swells up, and then tells the customer 'Oh, it's a bad power supply' or some such nonsense, when 30 seconds of looking at the circuit shows the damn cap installed backwards. :3d_frown:

Sorry, that and DC Jacks on laptops - I do more of them than anything.
