Depending on how bad it is, how big of area I would suggest having coffee with them and discussing that you have changed. I talk to cops all the time and in general they are just doing their jobs. I was lucky not to get arrested the last 2 times I was pulled over.
I have a couple cop friends also, they couldn't stand dude either. It was only 1 cop that hassled me continuously, who has since been fired for his conduct (towards many people in this town.)Didn't get in any trouble most of the times,(I was pulled over 27 times in '07,for anything from "thought I heard your muffler" to "A man was robbed earlier, and the description matched your car".Too bad I was in Chicago earlier that day,had JUST got off the toll road. I was even hassled for riding my bicycle with no hands,"wreckless driving")
Just was a constant inconvenience to be pulled over and searched/hassled for 30-40 minutes every time.Generally I don't get hassled too much anywhere outside of Elkhart anymore, and if I do I deserve it(like 110 in a 55 ,and he clocked me hard on the brakes,I stopped and waited on him to catch up,he wrote me a ticket for 5 over.)

I completely understand your way of thinking. And trust me, i've looked at the good in this situation. I needed that fendor replaced anyway, i needed other body work done etc etc. But it still happened and it sucks. And IMO as far as im concerned with cars themselves, im just not like other people, shit always tends to follow me, but i deal with it. I never take the easy way out. This car proves i don't just give up and dwell. I get my ass in gear and get it back on the road. But again, it still sucks becuase this stuff tends to happen to me more than anyone i know. Its worse because i KNOW how to take care of my cars more than most, yet im always the one without the car. Its very frustrating at times

Just stay positive. I know for a fact how much Jay has been through with his car.

Same cop every time,(unless I was actually doing something wrong, then it was a cop that was doing his job) only got ticketed three of those times.

Jeans. Everytime I find a brand/style of jean that fits correctly they go out of business or the style gets discontinued. Levis L2's no longer, Vans classics same. BS.

I have a tire curse. No, seriously! I've never been to Egypt, so its not a curse I got from a pyramid, but I must've walked into a cursed garage at some point early in life and got the tire curse. I always, always buy the road hazard insurance. It ALWAYS pays off! Most people I know NEVER buy it! At one point, I had 3 of my 4 tires replaced on my old Pontiac Sunbird. My Altima was struck within 3 mos of purchase. Replaced all four tires because they were never rotated by previous owner. Within 3 months I got a nail in a tire and had to replace it. Just recently, I've been topping off that same tire, and finally took it in. They found not one, but TWO nails in that tire.

Every car/truck I've owned has had a tire issue. Exception: my Kumho Ecstas on my Supra don't have road hazard (not offered). They have 5k miles on them, knock on wood, no issues.

And no, I don't buy cheap tires!

I feel ya with the tire thing, the week I bought my 18" Kumho ecsta MX's for my cressida,I was about 3 miles from home and heard something metal hit the ground.I was like WTF,and pulled off into the gas station, only to see a metal bracket w/a nail in it,so I plugged it and went to air it up,when it wouldn't take air was when I realized the inner sidewall had a gash from bead to tread from the bracket, suck.Glad I still had a pair of MK2 supra wheels in the trunk(looked oh so good w/18's up front and 14's in the back)

working on cars is where my foul luck seems to be....

case in point i replaced the passenger exhaust manifold on my new winter beater(due to my gf blowing up the celica...which was a fresh rebuild). it is a 87 bronco ll, 2.9l 5spd. it seems ford produced these trucks with broken manifolds, and being a former ford tech i've done a few of them. had all the tools at the ready, cut all the exhaust studs, drilled and tapped them, replaced the manifold. when i went to start the truck to back it out of the garage...it wont start!.

now for the bad luck..while removing the old manifold i kept scratching my hand on a sheetmetal screw sticking out of the floorboard. got tired of it so i decided to knock the sharp point off of it with a hammer.

after 30 mins in a now cold garage (fucking heater ran out of diesel). i finally deduce that the fuel pump isnt working....wtf? how does a exhaust manifold affect the fuel pump? well.... seems that little screw i hit was right beside the crash switch...which tripped from my blow to the floor

We are all subjects to the randominity of the universe... this is normally what people refer to as 'luck'. It is not an element that you can have more or less of or a commodity that you can run out of or have too much of. It is simple statistics and random events.

Thus, you have two choices, to acknowledge the above as truth you cannot change or effect in anyway, and therefor create your 'own luck' by seeing things the way Suprahero does... or continue through your life believing you're being victimized by the universe and live as a submissive to its wills and whims.

Put another way, you can either walk a path through life of your choosing, or follow a carrot on a stick that guides you across paths that are results of random chance.

"Luck" and "bad luck", to me, are unloading responsibility off of you and onto everything and everyone else. I once knew a guy who lost every penny he had and then some, now he makes enough money to pay more in taxes than most people make in a year. He got a raw deal but came back swingin', in less than a decade too. I also know a guy who was gassed working in a refinery, along with a 100 of his friends who were working on the job too. That was 7 years ago, and he is the ONLY one of the guys in that plant that are still alive (half were dead in a year from health complications, the rest dwindled off over the next two, he is the only one alive from that accident)... he has all sorts of health problems, but he gets up in the morning and attacks the day. He doesn't live it, he attacks it... he gets every ounce of enjoyment out of every day because he learned fast that one day you run out of days, just like all those other guys did. I honestly think he's alive only because he's just too damn stubborn to die.

The pattern? Those guys don't believe in 'having bad luck', they just make their own luck by choosing to see anything bad that happens to them as an opprotunity to find more good in themselves to better their own lives.

One who does not believe in a higher power would accept the randomness of the universe. Otherwise, those who believe in a higher power know there is potential to allow it to change one's life..

This is so true! My ex is the eternal victim - never his fault, never his doing. In fact, the world is out to get him. Its total misery to be around people like this. They suck the life out those around them.

The secret to happiness can be summed up in a quote I saw: "Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% what we make of it"

I find my tire curse to be rather amusing observation. Inconvenient, but amusing. I've had far worse things than flat tires in my life. But no matter what happens, there is someone out there who is worse off than I am.

I've touched on this earlier in this thread. Again, i agree to a degree. Some people come accross victimized and expect it to fix itself. However, this thread has nothing to do with that. Do i feel victimized at times? Definately, i've never come across someone with car problems like mine. Are they my fault, partly, but most of the time its just a strange coincidence. I don't beg for mercy, i get things done and fixed, however there are definately times i feel like venting or complaining if you will. I take better care of my car then anyone i know personally, but the problems just seem to be attracted to me. I accept that. It terrifies me that i want to buy a new car or MKIV when i get out of school b/c of this trend i have with cars, but im still going to do it. At times its just frustrating.
