Sorry for this question but I am getting a headache from searching so much... Anyway... I'm looking to buy one next month and I've read so many damn hot and cold reviews on these different importers that I am losing my mind.

So far I've been looking at these importers:
jarco(in the same state- seem pricey and unclear on what they include)
jhot(also a located in my state, but they only have one in stock with 100k+)
driftmotion(far away and also unlcear on whats included- expensive side)
osaka(some good reviews- some absolutely horrible reviews- Cheap as hell!)
jdmenginedepot(hot and cold but looks like they include everything you need)

I want to make sure I get EVERYTHING that could potentially come with these motors (ecu, ignitor, uncut harness, and so on). This is my first time doing this swap and I'd hate to be spending extra money and chasing parts down that should have come with the motor in the first place. I'd also obviously hate to buy a dud so I'd ideally love to deal with a place that also compression tests these motors or verifies mileage if I can (while trying not to spend over 2500 shipped).

So where have you folks gone? Who do you recommend? Or is it hit and miss all around?

I bought my 1jz from driftmotion. He's the only one I'd deal with. I think Jose from Kaizen had a few 2jz for sale, but I would definately recommend one of these two guys.

Jhot.

Mine had 92k on it when I bought it, but the engine was perfect. Put out 394whp on stock twins on 93 with my shitty tuning. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again (my 1jz was from them, my 2jz, and my buddys 1jz, all were perfect). They'll have more engines in if you dont want one with 100+k miles. But remember the cars they're coming out of are 15-18 years old now. They're not going to be low mileage really. Under 80k is low mileage imo.

Personally I'd rather have one with a bit more mileage, then one with 20k. The reasoning behind that is that the higher mileage one was probably driven more recent then the lowe mileage one.

A tip. From the pictures on a higher mileage engine, makes sure you see the timing belt replacement sticker. If you see that then ususally its been pretty well taken care of (and serviced).

almost 4 years ago when i first met jose (and brought my car to him), i had a mystery 1jz and a transmission that was sitting outside for who knows how long. i opted to buy a good tested engine and transmission at that time under his recommendation and just use the longblock/tranny i had as spares, and it's been the best investment i've made.

going on 4 years of daily usage and abuse since the swap and my spare longblock has only been collecting dust. i have long sold my spare tranny as well.

you should see that aristo clip in person. that engine bay is completely unmolested

Recently purchased an Aristo clip from Driftmotion. Still waiting on delivery, but Aaron was great and worked with me on some difficult ordering logistics I had encountered.

I ordered mine from a salvage yard that pulls the engines and place in a temp control warehouse. My engine is a 2j with approx 80k miles on it. Came with mostly everything and then some for 3k. I purchased in late 04' and then it sat for a couple years before I did anything with it.

I have bought from jhot, rb series engine and it was great. It included everything, and was in great working order. Best price and great customer service, and good quick shipping.

thanks for all the replies so far guys. I think I'm going to sit and wait it out on jhot to pick up a lower mileage motor. They seem like the best deal for the price especially considering I can drive over there and pick it up in person.

I gave some careful thought about buying a 2JZ. I went with a 1JZ. I bough it from EBAY* Yup I am the guy that wants to test the waters of motors. The valve covers came off not bad, a little rust on the cam lobe from sitting most do, but I paid 1200.00 including shipping, came with auto trans ( useless)

I got a soarer Harness, the people there were nice and asked if I wanted a rear sump 1jz, or front, I opted for the rear* must have for supras. Harness was perfect, I got a ignitor, ecu with it, and nothing really was missing. The fan was borken that was it. Not bad they helped out a lot, I just finished up the Soarer harness Write up to wire it into a Ma70, as well, I guess that is a good thing too if you go with it, good luck!

I bought from osaka before. HORRIBLE never again, when I tried to contact them they just ignore my phone calls and emails. JHOT I've bought from, absolutely the best service when it comes to used japanese engines. I would highly recommend them.

I've contacted jhot twice now and feel a little bit like I've been brushed off on both occasions. This is their last response:

"Hello,
We do not have any 2JZGTE engine sets in stock at this time and do not know when we will be getting more in. Have a good day.

Diana"

The only difference is that on the first email they said they should be recieving more on their next shipment. I even went as far as offering a deposit on the next 2j motor they recieved or could get their hands on... It's starting to look like I'm going to shop elsewhere.
