What's your next computer upgrade?

If you're a geek like me, and you upgrade at least every 4 months (i've been slipping recently :( ), what's the next thing on your rig to be upgraded? Are you even building a new rig? :)

My current setup is:
  • Core2Duo E4300 @ 3.2Ghz (355 x 9 - 1.4250v)
  • Zalman CNPS9700 Heatsink
  • 2gb OCZ Gold DDR667 (4-4-4-12 - 2.0v)
  • Asus P5B-E (1601 BIOS)
  • Asus Radeon x1950 Pro (635Mhz Core / 1550Mhz Mem)
  • 3 x Hitachi Deskstar T7K250's (250gb)
  • 1 x Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 (200gb)
  • Samsung SH-183A SATA DVD±RW drive
  • 19" 1440x900 Widescreen FP
  • Logitech UltraX Wireless Keyboard & Optical Mouse
  • Creative Labs P380 Speakers (2.0)
The next thing i'm upgrading on mine, is the graphics card - the 1950Pro has been a good little card, but Crysis is going to obliterate it - so i'm waiting for the 8800GT to come out. I had considered the RV670 as well, but the 8800GT looks to be amazingly priced and outpacing the current 8800GTS - i think its pretty much bought ;)

The next thing, is the hard drives....750gb of main storage isnt enough - so i'm investing in a pair of 500gb Hitachi Deskstar T7K500's - downloading HD content is a bitch sometimes :D

My GOD man! How much porn do you need? :sarcasm:

Answer: You can NEVER have enough.

I'll be happy with my current setup until they work all the kinks out of Vista. I didn't get an XP machine until 2005. LOL.

Quad Core is cheap - but right now - hardly any apps i use actually USE the second core - even half life 2 episode 2, whilst supposedly multithreaded and even with r_threaded_renderables set to 1, it still doesnt actually use the second core all that much....

Plus - Graphics card is more of a priority!

Hard disks...well, try having 3 Seasons of Battlestar Galactica, 2 Seasons of EUReKA, Jericho, Heroes, Stargate Atlantis in HD, as well as in SD, every episode to date of Stargate SG-1, Star Trek: TNG, Star Trek: DS9, Star Trek: Enterprise and a few scattered eps of ST:VOY, Life on Mars, Numb3rs, House and Overhaulin...and 120 xvid movies, 14gb of Apps and OS's, 35gb of Games....

It all mounts up :D

not worth buying all of the SOTA hardware...

in six months it will be half the price, why bother when the second level down that WAS the SOTA 6 montsh ago is only marginally slower...

I'm running on a bit of an old setup, but like a car, it's got good tuning ;)

AMD Duron 1.4gig OCed to 2.1
Swiftech CPU cooler (took the fucking Delta fan off, holy shit that thing is loud)
512MB dual channel RAM
2x80gig HDD's (both split into two partitions)
Gigabyte Geforce 6800 (passive cooler)
Custom mounted 120MM fan on the bottom that blows directly on the GFX card.
Logitech MX300 mouse (corded, cordless has lag fookas!!!)
Crappy ass monitor

Keep in mind I run Windows Server 2003 and I run about SEVEN processes in my gaming mode. XP runs over THIRTY...

a Tb HDD was under $500 a couple months ago when I looked...

only issue with having one drive is it's not very redundant...

Maxtor is NOT as good as they used to be, they where bought out and now their MTBF has gone down...

Vista is the single WORST downgrade you can install on your computer...

Yea Maxtor isn't the same anymore then before, but i still prefer it over Seagate & Hitachi. Plus its never let me down ever in all my years of using it. Even my new one.

Western Digital is just crap.
Hitachi is good and so is Seagate.

I got Vista on as a 50gig partition for just trying it out.
I used it and i was slightly impressed. It has its UPS and DOWNS.
Once Vista comes out with a SP1/SP2, then i'll reconsider.
