Dunno what to tell you man, you could replace the entire brake system for less than half what you're going to be paying...

like I said, not an option. What I'm contemplating now is whether to order the parts from the shop or order the parts myself and have them install it. If I order the parts myself I'd be getting more/better parts but it would cost me more. I'm curious to know whether or not it's worth the extra $$$.

These are your BRAKES man! Of course it worth it. The better your brakes are, the less likely you are to kill yourself, or someone else.

If you order the parts yourself the shop will NOT warranty them. They never do as they make half their cash on ripping you off for the price of the parts.

<=== Delivery driver for a major parts distributor for shops

If you saw what they paid you'd be pissed...

lol, that's what I thought. Which leaves me in even more of a dilemma.

I don't know if I should just tell them to go ahead and do it and live with Akebono pads or wait and be without a car, but get better parts but spend more money?

Well your decision has pretty much been made for you. The whole reason to get the work done at the shop is to have a warranty. A warranty you won't have using the 935 kit installed at that shop. You can't do the work yourself or shop around for another shop.

So, that leaves you with going with the parts and labor the shop quoted.

those pads are pretty good, they're ceramics...

It's up to you really, but it looks like you really don't have a choice...

I guess so, I'm just worried about the stopping performance of Akebono pads.

Are all Akebono's ceramic?

They're low noise and low dust and about the same stopping power as a stock pad.

How do they compare to Porterfield R4S's? I currently have AutoZone brakes in the front and Toyota OEM in the rear, will I notice a negligible difference?

Be about the same IMHO, the Porterfields on the other hand are a high performance pad...

Damn, I was hoping to get some increase in braking performance. If I end up getting these Akebono's now, I guess I'll get Porterfield's next time.

A good brake fluid flush and a good pad break in and they'll be fine...

I mean, the car is basically a show car that I street drive. I'm not tracking it by any means but more braking performance can't hurt. Do you think the shop flushes the brakes?

they usually use DOT3

I also noticed in the pics that your calipers are painted red, the replacement caliper isn't going to be red, and how did they get red to begin with?

Previous owner painted them. I will do the same, supposedly it's very simple.
