my concern is not the gap. The gap is relative to the car. You try to run the largest gap you can get away with without misfire. My concern is something that small in the chamber getting hot and pre igniting the fuel. Maybe you run rich enough to keep the cyl cool, maybe you have not stayed on boost long enough to do any real damage, maybe it's causing light detonation and the car is pulling timing, maybe maybe maybe. Do you really want to risk your motor on a maybe? run a copper plug one heat range colder advanced autoparts: ngk- bkr7e11 stock#1283
I have my car tuned fairly well, so I'm really not running overly rich at any point. I keep a pretty close watch on everything, and so far, no issues. I am certain however, that I do not drive as aggressively as some people here.
I also have never heard a first-hand account of the dangers you describe related to a properly tuned mkIII Supra.
Are you speaking from experience, or just in theory?
I completely understand your warning - it's not the first time I have heard it. I definitely appreciate you putting out there so that we know the risks. I am curious if anybody has first-hand knowledge of this becoming a problem in our cars.
I assume EGT's would have something to do with causing the condition you are referring to. Is this correct? If so, are you aware at what temperature this starts to be a problem.
