depends on what kind of car its going into. is it going into an auto? is it going into a turbo? or the coolant gauge is f'ed. i didnt think they were supposed t sit with a reading when not energized

N/A's didn't come with TEM's so it has to be a turbo cluster with a voltage gauge. Guessing whoever had it put in a after market boost gauge and put in a voltage gauge in place of the stock boost gauge...not a bad idea really. Sucks for you if you wanted a stock boost gauge.

So it goes.

TEMS was an option on NAs.

Yup, the sport package, but I believe Na's had 140mph clusters, where as the turbo's where 160, so there was some gauge swapping done, whether it was the speedo, or voltage gauge... I do not know..

LOL @ Brewster's sig.

Edit: It appears to be the Voltage gauge was swapped in, the needle is a different color... and it looks alittle tampered with.

The N/A voltage gauge is also 86.5-88, different needle.

N/A's with sports package DID come with TEMS. But it appears to be a turbo cluster because of the redline and the 160mph.

No, 89+ NA's had 160's, I would know, mine has one...the only thing I can see in that is the redline is lower than my 89

Bingo! 89+(90) cluster with an 87 volt meter lol.

I just put it in the car and guess what... It diddnt work.. Gah. Im hoping when I took it apart to remove the boost guage i just diddnt tighten somthnig all the way. Im gonna clean the contacts too lol.

I was pretty dissapointed when everything was in and it diddnt work :/

Oh well.

Yea I was wondering if it was raised for the 90+'s.

The redline is also lower than my 89, 90-92 they lowered it to 6250 I believe.

I also don't have that center light under the Speedo between the Seatbelt and Brake wanring lights... so definetly a 90-92 with NA pre89 volt gauge... is my guess.

Edit: Damn Hells already unveiled the answer.

yeah i think you just found it, thats a pre-89 needle with a 91is dash cluster..

so you bought a turbo cluster and swapped in a voltmeter from your pre89 cluster? and the voltmeter worked in the old cluster? Poopy! double check your wires, and make sure you compare the way that voltmeter was connected to the original cluster and how you have it now.

Im wondering though. Would a NA 87 voltmeter even work in a 89+ turbo cluster. Ive seen the backs of both but not at the same time, so I got nothing but memory to go on...and at my age thats not really enough...................

What was I saying again?

Ill have to check. But nothing was working.. My temp needle reset itself so I know that one worked. But none of the other guages were moving... Im gonna take a look.

Is m first problem that its a 90 cluster going into an 87? lol

actually... my 89 has those needles... the one's with the orange stripe must have just been 86-88.

And is that light in the middle I was talking about a TEMS thing, or a 90+ thing... or what?

It's a 1990 USA 5-speed TEMS gauge cluster with an 86.5-88 N/A Voltmeter.

You can tell it's an 89+ cluster because of the needles and less lines on the gauges, as well as the cruise light added on the tach, as well as the change to the indicators (made them all black). You can tell it's a 1990 because it has the airbag light and lower redline, it's not a 91-92 cluster because they had more lines added on the speedometer. It's a USA cluster because it's in imperial and the fuel gauge has "UNLEADED FUEL ONLY" written on it. It's a 5-speed cluster because it doesn't have the A/T lights on the tach. You can't tell if it's Turbo or N/A from the pic.

Anything else? ;).

(PS: Turbo and N/A clusters had the same speedometers, they are 150mph for pre-89 and 160mph for 89+).

Anyone wanna tell me what's unique about my cluster?
