What would your 1st hand gun be?

My first handgun I purchased years ago... But just got rid of it recently. It was a Walther P22 with the optional 5" barrel. I know it was a .22, but I was young when I got it. They are actually very reliable guns, and are fun to learn with. Very accurate also. I eventually got an Outback iiD suppressor from Gemtec here in Idaho and tac/laser light for it. Overall, fun first gun. Here's a pic of it. Highly recommended for a young audience.

I've been looking at those as a good training/cheap target gun for a while. My aim is still poor and I really just need a bunch more range time.

I may have a p22 in my near future with an 18" 12 gauge for the bedside.

I'm now looking at a Sig Sauer, either their p220 or the p226, but of course they make 1911s also so that's in the back of my mind. But the 220 looks so good.

someone mind explaining to me HOW THE HELL you can have a compensator AND a suppressor on the same gun AT THE SAME TIME? Am I missing something here?

There is no muzzle brake there. Thats the 5" target barrel. The gun's slide (tan color) makes the barrel odd looking, but its just a regular 5" barrel with threaded suppressor.

^ yep. Either a 3.5 or 5 inch barrel. That compensator piece just slips over the barrel.

Sig Master Shop Series, by prepared to wait! About a year. If you are serious about that price range--around 3K, step up a little farther and get a P226x6PPC.
For a 9mm you could also look at a Sig P210-great pistol and you can save some $$$$. Still a big difference from a 9 and the P220 45. Sig does make a P220x6.
On the other hand, you did mention an interest in 1911's. For your budget range look at Les Baer 1911's. Thunder Ranch Special is a fine range and carry pistol-45. If you prefer a 9mm over a 45 you can look at a Distinguished Match-5" barrel or Open Class-6" barrel in either 9mm or 45. In any case be prepared to wait.
I ordered my wife's Open Class 9mm supported, 1 1/2", 3.5 trigger pull last June, ETA this October-2013.

Thanks for the great info. After actually shopping for the 226x6 I was a little shocked, maybe not going to be my first handgun, but I won't mind paying/waiting for it later down the road cuz it's just so my type.

As you know I like the big, full size, bulky handguns, I'd like to stay under a grand for my first and I prefer a .40, what would you recommend?

What's the need to suppress a .22lr? All they do is pop anyway.

I'm just teasing. It's "tacticool" approved. ;-)

I won't lie, I thought it looked damn cool. Was fun as hell too. And with Gemtech .22 subsonic rounds it really was just a whisper :)

Haha, I'd love to hear it. Not to mention it would be kinda neat to go plinking in the woods with no hearing protection and not deafen yourself.

Putt. Putt putt. Putt.

more like pff pff pff. I had a suppressed .17 cal rifle at one point... quiet as a whisper... if you were more than 30 ft away you couldn't really hear it... impact of round on target was loud as hell by comparison

That's why I have my cute little .22LR AR15.... It's a blast to plink around for cheap.
