do you even KNOW how much a 7mgte engine costs?

rethink your post.

Your brains should speak quicker than your mouth.

ANd yes, i am aware of the cost of a 7mgte, they go for around 700 dollars. But thats only if people are willing to pay that.

IJ why never again? What did the project cost you? Did you do it all yourself?

I ask because my car is rusted to hell as well. But there's too much sentimental value for me to scrap it. I'm willing to take the $$$ hit to restore it but I'm just curious why you said never again?

Cost me many hours for a non result in the end, as I said earlier you can't get it all no matter how much you cut out and unless you're going to start replacing structural members you can't be sure the car will be safe.

To do it correctly you need either a) a donor car or b) access to some Hitensile steel sheet and the equipment to work it into the required shapes.

Even if you go a) you run the risk of destroying the original metal's strength if welded incorrectly.

I look at this from a performance build PoView and while repairs are fine for a DD I won't trust my life in something I can't be sure of it's integrity at speed.

I severe accident will change your outlook for life in this sort of thing.

by looking at the pics he has posted the main damage is in the rear under the tag. as far as being safe if this is the only rust he has then the welding and body filling should be fine seeing how its not really a stress point in the cars structure! like i said if you want to sell it lmk or anyone else for that matter hell my 1g was totaled and the frame was bent and i fixed it back almost all the way and sold it for 2k with a bent frame. so i guess it really boils down to how much you really want the car thats all. if its worth it to you to fix it then so be it if not move on.( but i still say fix it).
judging by your pics that could easilyt be fixed in about a good 8hr day( provided you somewhat know what your doing). i once bought an 86.5 supra that was pretty rough with a bad clutch, bad brakes and some rust for $700 and the guy didnt even know if it ran or not. but i bought it anyways. so like i said above if its worth it to you then do it if not dont..... sorry for the long post

well if he doesnt see any rust anywhere but the rear hatch area, couldnt the rest of the car be ok?

i mean rust is a bad thing and sounds yucky but...considering the hatch being the commonplace for water intrusion... lots of that rust could happen without ever even seeing it... under the carpet and spare tire that most people never use...

and i'd say many supras leak water at some point... soo...what's to say its not just a hatch leak problem left un cared for, rather than a whole car cancer, caused by road salt or sea air? maybe a body shop could take a look at it and inspect the whole car? unless you know what you're doing.
