i'mnot gomma preach here, but getting any loan for any car is a bad idea

here's the math

average car payment is 364 and some change over a 64 month period.

that average car payment invested over an average working lifetime,in a decent mutualfund, from20 to 62, works out to $4.4 MILLION dollars

thats how much that car is costing you, hope you like it

as far as taking a loan to fix a car? that dude is right, it's a dumb idea

credit cards? even worse, pay everything with cash, the dirty little secretis, you don't need credit for ANYTHING but getting into debt

I agree 100% with you. I never had a credit card until the bank told me I needed to have one to improve my credit before buying my first house. 5 years after buying my house I have 12K in short term debt. That sucks!

it's going to cost about $4000 to do a 1jz swap. doesn't sound like you got that.

the vvti engines won't be from a supra. you want a supra clip.

why $4000? I got a full clip for $2000, and mounts for $175, what else is gonna cost me another 1800? Im doing this myself. Not paying to have it done.Last I checked $4000 here in houston for parts AND labor.

Where are you getting a $2000 clip from? Thats cheap if it is a supra clip.

Remember you get what you pay for.........

guy is cutting me a deal, he has tons of toyota shit and cant push it, he pushes everything else he gets but he said there isnt much market for his supra stuff. It IS a supra front clip, he has alot, like I said, including 2 with VVti. He knows what he was talkin about, Im going to make my pick next week.

kfine don't believe me.

Im asking how, please help me out here and explain.

I was looking why it costs that much for a DIY'er, Im just doing a straight over swap, moving parts needed and extending the harness. Im getting a new sender attachment for the 7m oil guage other than that Im getting a clip with it all there, oh and hte 2jz throttle cable. Oh and dont hate me but its only costing $30 to ship my clip to my house, in town pricing.

You need to consider this:

You apparently need reliable transport right, well the 1jz is a good engine. BUT it is still just an engine, you need to maintain it. You should plan to change out the belts and hoses while you have it out, what about the clutch? Is it good or will it need replacing? You need AC in H-town so need to hook that up. Power steering line too. There are a surprisingly large amount of things that will nickle and dime you to death doing this swap. Good fluids, oil & tranny etc. It all adds up. Quick.

Just offering some realistic advice man. It sounds like you are really tight on $$$ so I would hate to see you get almost done then be out a couple grand and still have no ride..........

Nah I did look into all of that, I really skimmed over what all IM getting. I plan on $3500 budget, Im hoping less. If all goes to plan, $2500 loan over a year (paid off in 3 months) and the extra grand from my pocket. I can do this, and I know the engine is JUST an engine but thats ANY car. Nothing is bulletproof. If I own a 1JZ I wont touch the floor (I know, yeah right) until I have a means to fix anything that breaks. I cant get myself into another financed vehicle, so this really is my last option.

Id love ALL the help I can get, if anyone can help realizing I know the costs and problems I may face, please offer your help. Its all good, I know theres a few extra parts I need to grab first. Suns Auto has some low mileage ones so Ill get one of those.

thanks, I would go 7M again but it wont last. I keep hearing horror stories, and I really am afraid of an engine being shipped that I cant personally inspect before hand.

my mom needs a $600 neiman bill overdue, paid now. I said help me and Ill help you. Ill give you $600 cash if you co sign a small vehicle for me to get to and from work right now. A celica or some civic or something. She said well talk.

BEFORE you say take the $600 and put it down on something for me, I cant do it alone, I fucked my creidt up few years ago when I was a teen.

It sounds like you have it rough man, sorry.

It sounds like a stock 7MGE is the way to go for now. You can have it swapped out in a day or two with a friend working straight in the evenings when you're not at work and get it going in 3 days or less. It's just not the time to put anything more into it.

I cant FIND a 7MGE, I tried, otherwise I guess I would right now. I called the 2 places in town that carry em, none in stock. Aside fromthat Im afraid when I get it, itll run me another 2 months then burn out on me.

Other than that, Id rebuild my GE, but I dont have the time to wait for a shop to do it for me and I dont have that much time at home. I mean if it was possible to rebuild in a short time with $1200 or less, Id be on it.

things add up man. if you get a supra clip you'll have most everything you need, but some things need replaced. if you get that clip for that cheap then yeah you could probably come in a good bit under 4k. a swap like this will nickel and dime you to death though.

go read the 1JZ FAQ on supraforums
