What size hex socket are the head bolts

Replacing my head gasket

I looks like they are the black bolts, that are hex nuts but inward, is that right.

What size is the hex nut piece i need
ok. 10mm is the answer.

What kind of lube will i need for reusing stock bolts - something i can get from the local auto store or somewhere close.

Do i need to use a silicone sealand of some sort on my STOCK head gasket...some say yes some say no?

Should i really sand my block and head...some say yes some say no??

Im going to torque these to 72ft is what i hear, right

sand paper on what?

moly lube you can get from arp directly, or about any parts store.

My head bolts are 13mm 12points. Stock is 10. I just took it off 2 days ago :] the ARP's have twice as much thread at the stockers...I don't know if that helps or not but it makes me feel safer mentally. LOL

Do you have any of the bolts handy and if so, can you get me a length meausment from one, bolt length, not including the head?

Moly assembly lube...most parts stores have it. The stock bolts are a 10mm hex.

You want to use Black or Copper RTV on the top of the front plate...the TRSM shows the location. Otherwise you will have an oil leak
I would use copper spray on the stock composite HG...it will fill in any imperfections. It's a new MHG that you do not want to use any kind of spray sealer.

I don't...but, some folks do. If you clean all the old gasket material off really well, it's not necessary. If you do sand or use an abrasive like Scotch bright, be very careful...make sure all the coolant and oil passages in the block are plugged, use a block and make even strokes down/across the block.

You might as well clean the piston tops...MoPar Combustion Chamber cleaner works well.

I use 75 ft/lbs....same as ARP bolts...make sure you use moly and follow the TRSM pattern in multiple passes. I use 10 ft/lb increments.

CJ, they're both the same length, but the ARP's have exactly twice as much thread as the stockers. The Arp's are already in my car, but the stockers are in a cup in my front yard. Haha

Here's a pic...it goes in two locations where the aluminum meets the block. The pic shows the drivers side, there other is the same on the passenger side. The 2nd pic shows it with the HG installed...you can see the silicone on the right, the left is under the HG.

How long of a 10mm hex driver is needed? It looks from the pics ive seen the bolts are pretty deep to get to?

I made one by cutting off a 10mm Allan wrench and used a 10mm deep socket to turn it. Worked well
