What should I do with these rods?

I think for the money, the Pauter's will compare to any rods out there. (You can get them in Ti if your so inclined, but I don't really see any benefit unless your trying to build a 7M that will hold up to very high RPM, or has the lightest possible rotating assembly.) Ti also has some fatigue issues if not coated/handled correctly from what I've been told.

My dealings with Pauter were top notch in the customer service area, and they did what they said they would do, and when they said they would do it. (Sometimes a rare thing in this engine parts/building world.)

I did not care if they were lighter than stock, my engine is not stock anymore, and was fully balanced when being assembled as a rotating assembly. (My rods are 6' long, have 327 SBC sized journals and other changes crower, eagle and others don't offer. Another benefit of Pauter is you can get them exactly how you want them.)

Stock shot peeed rods have held 800whp and 8k rpms multiple times. The guy who did this drives teh car hard.. so I'm sure he felt that 800hp and 8k rpms on the highway.

Stock rods WILL handle ANYTHIGN you or anyone else on this list can throw at them. Aside from trying to compress water in the cylinder like that picture on page one.

I dont even know where to take my rods to get them shot peened if I wanted to...

BTW: IF I reuse my stockers, can you replace the brass insert for the wrist pins? SHOULD you replace them?

Every stock rod that I've seen fail, has failed at one point.

The drilled hole in the shoulder that sprays oil on the thrust surface of the bore.

Even with ARP hardware, cyro treatment, and peening the rods, your still dealing with a design that has a hole and other material removed in a critical stress point.

SO here are your choices.

Go with what might work. Or spend between 500 and a 1000 on rods you know will not fail. (I don't know of any aftermarket rods with holes drilled in the stock location on the shoulder.)

The rods at even 1000 are cheap insurance on your expensive built motor in my opinion.

Or you could be the next guy making 800hp on "stock" rods...

Jake: Cryo the stockers!
Decide you don't want to use them, and sell them to me for the $50 it took to have them cryo'd. end.
