Some comments. Buy this stuff online from Champion.

04112-42023 $244.50 Engine valve grind gasket overhaul kit
90116-10025 $0.82 $5.74 7 cylinder head to exhaust manifold stud
90179-10128 $0.92 $6.44 7 cylinder head to exhaust manifold nut

Mike Bringle's Cygnus site lists all the stuff in the Engine Overhaul kit (note that you are buying the valve grind kit so some of his stuff specific to the bottom end is not included)

http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/library/gaskets/Kit_04111-42023.html

Cygnus is really the place to start for any of this sort of stuff. Its amazing how much info is on Mike's site.

and doesnt the toyota set come with all that stuff as well?

I was just going to buy toyota studs and nuts when i was at the toyota shop but i'm not totally sure. i'd need to get the part number because i dont think he could find it when i asked but he said they have a TON.

I think there may have been some confusion because "Champion" is also a part manufacturer. Maker of spark plugs, if I recall :)

OH!!! my baaaad.... i'm sorry i havent been in the whole toyota realm long enough to remember that. I was in fact thinking of the company Champion like mickyg suggested and was suprised that they produced gasket sets as well as sparkplugs....lol.

thanks for the clarification. i'm taking in the head today so i dont have time to order the set but those part numbers are still exactly what i needed, thanks 3p!

Before i take it in i remember the mention of making sure another part was machined as well as the head or something...obviously something that needs to be even with the head so it will seal...but what is it? also there's that water fitting in the back, should i get it replaced? i'm not sure if i should bother? i found that while searching for the part to machine as well as the head...no luck though.

ok i dropped the head off today, turns out i dont need a valve job, and it was too expensive anyways. he's going to surface the head and helicoil one stud for me that stripped. i know everybody does all of them but both men there were nice and told me that with what i had i probably didnt need it, and the standard was to leave it alone. 4 of the studs didnt even come out so chances are they'll be fine. if they aren't i'd rather save the money and use a 90degree drill to helicoil the other studs myself if i end up stripping one when going to proper torque.

so it's only around 80 dollars for all that and its looking good so far. the bad part is the 486 dollar price on my toyota parts

I got a head gasket set, some water hoses and the front main oil hose all with clamps...price racks up on that one so i'm glad i didnt do the valve job.

helicoiling was around 70dollars and hour and would take about 1.5-2 hours...too much when i can do it for under 60 myself.

i'll post news as i get it back together. i probably wont have much until wendsday when my toyota stuff gets here, but i'll probably post. just thought i'd say i finally got it in :D.

Thanks for all your help so far guys! hopefully i dont run into any issues during assembly!

Hey everybody, i got the head back, and it's nice and clean, shaved, and some studs fixed so i'ts ready to go on once the block is cleaned off. more pics of everything once the work area is cleaned and more is ready...later today!

I used b-12 chemtool to clean some other parts such as the intake manifold...this stuff rocks! I couldn't get my hands on the mopar cleaner, too far of a drive to my dodge dealer and i had this stuff already...but didnt know until i found it yesterday :D

here's the gasket set, silly thing is over 300 dollars and doesnt include EVERY gasket... which is silly. the paper is the fuel-delivery pipe torque specs that changed i guess. but no headgasket notification :( . i was hoping toyota admitted to their mistakes, but i guess not yet.

I have never seen such a beefy gasket as that exaust gasket, it's so thick!

good point. i was also noticing this because the crappy fel-pro one i had was...thin. and it was little circles of gasket instead of one huge gasket and lots of material between the ports... the fel-pro had just enough to hold the circles together and could probably aid warpage. blahhh.

you're talking about the head bolts right? just checking since we were talking about the exaust for a second.

I feel bad cause i just made a new thread and i thought this thread was dead... what do i do now? maybe that was a bad idea....
