What rwhp is the stock exhaust manifold good for please guys?

ok, so I have the power bug already.
I have searched this forum and looked for stickies but didnt find any so I decided to post it....

I am looking for 450 rwhp initially and want to do this on a near stock motor....as I might build a 2jzgte if this one blows (or do a built 7mgte)

Either way, is there a 'Common power upgrades thread' or similiar I have missed :1zhelp:

These are my questions:

Is the stock manifold capable of supporting that rwhp?

If yes, what is a suitable turbo for this rwhp? is the stock manifold a T3 flange?

Will an S-AFC be suitable for my goals (may go standalone later but budget dictates piggyback 1st)

Thanks in advance

Stock exh. manifold will be able to do it. You will need to upgrade the CT26 to a 57 trim from someone like MDC motorsports, or get a bolt on JT or SP turbo. These arent t3 flanges. You will need to get 550cc injectors, a fuel pressure regulator, walbro 255 fuel pump, and some way to tune the car. I use the maft-pro.

A stock motor will not hold this much horsepower. You will blow your head gasket even attempting 300rwhp. ARP studs with a cometic HG torqued to the proper ft lbs will allow you to boost on the stock setup, but I feel that if you want to push 20psi on a SP61gt or something like that, you will need a Metal head gasket and have your block and head machined smooth.

Thanks a lot for the input.
I must apologise as I forgot to include a few key factors in the build....

I meant the motor internals as stock (conrods and pistons) but am going to use Clevite main bearings, ARP head studs and main cap bolts...

Titan metal headgasket

machined flat head ??Ra (very fine!)

Machined block to ??Ra (very fine!)

Uprated radiator and thoroughly checked out coolant system

Big front mount intercooler (got already)

Custom hard pipes (got)

550s minimum

Was thinking of twin walbros to allow for future upgrades (is there a kit?)

Aeromotive FPR (got)

I have been reading the threads on the Maft Pro. It looks a great piece of kit but has anyone got a 'good' tune running on a car of 500whp upwards? it seems a lot of folks were having teething troubles setting it up?

The stock manifold, when ported, has been proven to handle at least 540 RWHP as proven by Malloynx.

The suprasport bolt-on BOSS turbos work on the stock manifold and down pipes, and is the same turbo used by Malloy to make what he did. No T3 flanges are required on this on, it is a true bolt-on and comes with dual ceramic ball bearings optional.

My truck runs a stock manifold and there is no porting done on it. I have no dyno numbers, but its way over 600 wheel.

Great news :aigo:
Thanks a lot for the heads up....and your truck runs in the 9s at 144mph :naughty:
WOW! I will be well pleased if I can get in the 11's initially with the starting power goals I have got. (450 - 550 rwhp+)..

What would be the sort of times a 550 rwhp mk3 would run given a good driver (hopefully) and a great 60 ft and RT? with a manual gearbox.

Are 12s more realistic?
thanks guys, I love this forum already :biglaugh:

stock ct 26 at 12psi i was able to pinch a 13.5 @107 with a 60' of 2.2
im running n/a cams too, so i would imagine good driving and good 60's would drop you right into the twevles

Were you tuned? I ran that same time and trap and I used the 57 trim @ 15psi untuned. :3d_frown:

Nope, just ordered a VPC with a SAFC along with the BIC DDP, BIC test pipe, and the BIC thunder catback. Then when they are installed I will get it tuned and dive into the 12s.

hat was with full three inch, 2.5inch hard pipes, 4ply couplers and t-bolts, maft pro, with lc-1 to help me tune it, i would say i still had more power to pull out of the caras i was running 9's and 10's afr

but no the car never was tuned by a shop, and it wasn't running the afm any more either.

There is no kit for the dual Walbro but there are a few threads on it, use the search.

If you wanna get in the 11's I would go with at least a ct-26 60-1 or an sp61gt. Also plan on drags radials or slicks. And tuning is key to getting the most out of your setup so don't compromise it.

Good luck. :)

Thanks guys.
Will search on the double walbros

i forgot to mention the cars current mods.
But its got a 3" custom turbo back exhaust on it at present.
So at least thats one mod I wont have to do!

SP61GT...
Is that a precision?
Does it fit the stock manifold?

Slicks and piggyback in the pipeline.

Good tuning....well that depends on what I can get from the MAFT Pro :naughty:

I dont want to go full standalone initially. But may go AEM further down the road most likely....
i can always sell the MAFT pro when and if that point arrives!

Yeah it doesnt take much to get a low 13 out. I ran a 13.3@108 with the ct-26 at 12psi also. The only tunning I had was the vpc/gcc tuned on the street using a autometer narrowband o2.
