like the title says, im thinking my rpms are way high at 80, the auto may be giving up. i have no intention of replacing it with another auto, just need to know how much it has left in it.

Umm if your that high in your RPM at that speed, try pushing the button for your Over drive. Cause in drive with OD off im about that. because im pushing OD for my shift at approximatly 102mph. But I have an LSD out of my 86.5 na in my turbo car now. i believe i have a 4.1 gear in the rear, but I have yet to take it apart to verify.

it slips a little in normal cruising around town, but nothing severe. it runs around 1800 in final gear at 45mph , with light throttle at 45 it will jump to 21-2300rpm and is slightly laggy at stoplights. idk what is going on with it it just seems very high on the freeway to me. and im getting around 18mpg on the highway(lights down),

You will be running higher RPM with a stock 5 speed, than the automatic.
How does the tranny fluid look? If its all burned to shit I wouldnt even bother changing it because it'll just make the slipping worse. Unless you already changed out burn fluid that could be the problem. Trans probably just needs a rebuild.
5-speed running higher than auto? My 89 r154 turns 3k rpm at 80. 3.73 gears.Maybe changed a little because of 17" wheels.

havent pulled the dipstick, and at this point i dont really care i want a 5spd. and i think i may have just convinced that seller to sell!!!!!
