Hey guys, I'd like some insight. I'm looking at buying a 1987 Supra Turbo (I'll be selling my 88 N/A to fund this)

Specs on the car: blue, hardtop, turbo/ manual. Needs I/C piping, owner claims it has some rust on the body but the chassis/frame is in good condition. Has an HKS downpipe, RSR exhaust. New waterpump, fan clutch.

For the octane part: car has a built engine: Crower rods, CP forged pistons
.040 over, crower valvetrain, cometic hg, arp studs

Would it be daily driveable?

I do not have pictures as of right now. Owner is asking $1500

I know it's hard to estimate if it is worth the price without pictures of the car, but from this does it sound good, or too good to be true?

Thanks for your input
-Chris

it sounds like a good deal..

BUT
-Watch the rust...
-does he have receipts for this "built" engine?
-premium fuel only

+1, people always seem to have a "built" engine.

I'd say the motor alone would easily be worth the asking price. Makes me wonder if the motor actually has all those parts in it. I'd get receipts. Personally, I'd drop the pan before purchase. If everything checks out and the motor is running strong, I say go for it.

screw receipts... pull the valve covers off. i wouldnt believe him even if he had the receipts...

yes it would be daily driveable, but you might need to get it tuned because of the cams, but for just driving around town not trying to race you should be fine. i have a 'built' engine and its not really any different... but since everything is balanced, its MUCH smoother than all of my friends cars.

If everything checked out and the engine really does have all of these parts, if it needed to be tuned, would I need some sort of EMS, or can it be tuned on the stock ECU?

update on this guys. checked the car out today, reposted on CL by someone who bought the car and who is now selling it.

Current seller doesn't claim that it's a built engine (no papers no proof). It's not an HKS downpipe that it has on it, its an HKS (3000) pipe. the car needs a little TLC, but definitely has potential. plus it still has the supra emblem on the front. it didn't start when I checked it out today, but the guy said he'd change the battery and connectors, and get it running before he calls to set up a time for a test-drive. It needs an intercooler and piping, as the one that was on it was leaking and had flex pipe as the cold-side piping.

I'd say it's worth it for the price :D

Guys, I never said it was a built engine. Nor did the current seller.

Also, I personally wouldn't remove anything from the engine because I have extremely little to no automotive knowledge

A higher octane fuel is worth it,just depends on where you get it.
Be cautious of people trying to sell you a car with performance parts.Sometimes it might mean that they ran the dog piss out of it.
Does it run properly?

j3pz, that was the first post with the first ad on CL that I saw, that is what it said on the ad. That is what the OP claimed.

The current seller said that he didn't have any paperwork from the previous owner about this, therefore both he and concluded that there is no built engine.

The car would not start today, frozen battery and possibly bad battery connectors. Seller is going to replace the battery and have new connectors installed. He said he'll call me to set up a time to see it again after he gets it to start again.

I'll need an I/C and piping if I do get the car, the one that was on the car was leaking and had a piece of flex pipe from the I/C to the HKS pipe

why is this guy selling it so quickly? your going to get what you pay for with a 20 year old car. i wouldnt buy a car like this for that cheap if i had no mechanical abilities.
