Well it seems to me that somebody with good musical taste has had a significant role in helping you form your own taste for music, Brewster.
I've been around metal and rock all my life. My parents are both into some good older stuff and I've even gotten them into some of the new(er) stuff that I like. I've also hung around one of my uncles a lot throughout my life and he has the biggest music collection I've ever seen and also plays guitar and drums. He's the person that I can credit as being the person that has most influenced my musical taste.
As for Jethro Tull, my wife has made me a big fan. I knew of them before I met her, but was never exposed to much of their music except for what you hear on the radio. Her dad, who passed when she was 10, was a huge Jethro Tull fan and that led her to get into them. My favorite album of theirs is "Benefit" and I also really like "Aqualung." I have "Warchild," too, but I haven't listened to it very much. I have a big emotional attachment to their music, which makes it that much better.
I originally heard Frank Zappa's stuff with my dad, namely "Apostrophe (')." That's the only album I have of his and it's good enough to make me a fan. He is an incredible guitar player and music/lyric writer. I really get a kick out of the names of his songs and the lyrics to them. It's like comedy-jam-rock.
From what I know, I think that you could definitely get into Sleep, High on Fire, Mystick Krewe of Clearlight and Orange Goblin. I've got some more stuff that you'd probably be down for, but those kind of stand out to me as what would most likely interest you.
Give me a hollar if you'd like to check them out.
Loki-I'd be willing to bet that you could get down to Agents of Oblivion. Do you listen to or are you familiar with Faith No More?
