Hello.

Anyone from the celicasupra forums or the Alberta Supra Club probably knows me at least a little bit. I used to be a Mk2 guy -- still am, really, just don't have one right now. But I've done a horrible, horrible thing.

I bought a salvage 87 n/a. It's all in once piece, it wasn't in a collision. To me, it looks like a theft recovery. Nothing seems to be missing except for the stereo deck and now the e-brake button (between when I bought it and when I picked it up, someone decided they'd pick at the interior. Center console cover is pulled off and just kind of sitting there, and the e-brake button is missing) but apart from that and the side markers, everything's there. Once I patch the hole in the gas tank and pop in a battery, it SHOULD start, if everything is as okay as I think it is.

Back glass is smashed, will have to replace that. Other than that, it's in pretty good shape. I think I could have a running mk3 for a reasonable price.

Only thing I don't like about it is that it's an auto tranny, but $100 in parts and some back-breaking should fix that right up in the summer.

This post will have pictures later tonight, when I head out to take them.

I was a Mk2 guys since '93 and still have one as my daily driver. I picked up my first 87 a year ago, and have never looked back. The horsepower and wheel/accessory options are SO worth the change in platforms.

Okay, here's the damage!

small1.jpg

The side! It doesn't look so bad yet!

small2.jpg

The front. Gettin' a little worse. That spraypaint x is not encouraging.

small3.jpg

The back. Still not bad! Really, the body's in pretty good shape.

small4.jpg

The back window! ...wait a minute. Uh. Isn't there supposed to be glass here? (Any of you CelicaSupra people or Supra Club folks know this is not a new thing for me)

small5.jpg

The interior. Dirty, but mostly all there. Missing that thing around the door lock on the passenger side, and someone picked at the center console. I think it's missing heater controls. wtf. Also: Ew, auto. I hear the auto/manual swap is pretty well documented.

The 7m! I never thought I'd own one of these. Glenn tells me it's missing the fan shroud, and I think the battery's been cut out (the negative terminal just sort of isn't there. I started a fire on the body trying to ground it. =D) but otherwise, it looks like it's all there!

Pretty much, it's a complete car. We got it into neutral and got it rolling, and I kind of got the steering going, so I think for the most part, she's going to be all right!

More photos tomorrow when it's light!

I got her to her parking spot for now. The damage is a little worse than I'd anticipated, but still not looking bad. A dent on the passenger door, looks like something pushed the right fender in in front of it too, but I've seen worse. Need a gas tank door, marker lights, fog lights, back glass, battery wiring, and heater controls, I think. Everything else seems to be in one piece. Wire up a battery, throw the new tank on, and I should be able to see if the thing will start.

All in all, it's still seeming like an okay deal. I imagine we'll see if I'm still feeling that way soon enough.

Tekdeus: That would definitely be useful. How much do you want for it?

Just as an update, I've got a new hatch on the thing, replaced the gas door, and found a really nice right front fender to swap out for mine (which is crunched pretty bad just in front of the door.)

With some battery cable, an Optima, and a bit of front end work, I should be able to get her going. =)
