Alright, well as you all know from my first post, I recently bought a 88 Supra with a seized engine. So I started to tear down the engine today, got the radiator out and put a breaker bar on the crank to see if it would turn at all. The engine will crank about half a rotation in each direction before I hear a "Clunk" and it cannot be turned any further. Then I took out the spark plugs to see their condition and they are all fine but when I looked in the back two cylinders I noticed they have about a 1/4" of coolant(thick greenish oily substance) on top of them. I checked the oil in the car and its full but even holding the dipstick about 2 feet away the oil has a very potent smell. If i were to compare it to anything it would be that battery acid smell when you short out a battery. From what I could see the pistons looked like they were intact and would slide up and down easily. Anyway I was just wondering if anyone knew or could name what they think blew up in this thing before I get it completely out of the car. Ill have picture up soon if anyone cares to see. Thanks alot everyone. :1zhelp:

did the car run before this? any smoking or knocking or anything like that? whats the condition of your coolant? full/empty or discolored? when you take the plugs out, can you still not turn the engine over by hand? where does it sound like the clunk is comeing from?

how much coolant is in the system, and is there any in the cylenders. on that same note you *MIGHT* have a bhg or bad crank bearing or somthin along that line. youll have to tear it apart more to find out

Well the coolant was a bit low and looked like it was rusty. But it wasnt anything I didnt expect from a car that was probably sitting for a year or so. I imagine the car did run before this; how? I have no idea. The clunk sounds like its coming from lower down in the motor around the crank. My first guess was that it heavily bent a piston rod and now when it tries to push the piston up/down the rod hits against the cylinder wall. Oh well. how hard is it to rip the head off once you have both the manifolds off? I noticed a few huge Hex bolts running down the middle. Hope its not those, dont know if i have a tool that matches that...

you dont need to mess the those allen (hex) bolts yet. head bolts are all under the valve cover.. sounds like a rod to me from your "clunk description" but a dropped valve totally possable too. I took mine apart and found that a rock had fallen down into the #5 spark plug hole and it had embeded gravel into my piston and head. i removed gravel and flattened out the high spots on the piston and re-surfaced the head.. looks like it had been there for long time.. and of course i know some of it went out the turbo im sure.. but that was 2 yrs ago and it still runnin strong with same piston. sorry i got off topic a bit.... get the head off let us know what ya see.

your ARP headstuds and bolts are 14mm. the stock head bolts are 8mm allen. once both manifolds are off theres not alot left to do, cake!
