Has anyone done this? I have owned the car for 4 years and taken of the top 5 times. I am also doing a full cage eventually. It will be welded to the the A and B pillars. Does anyone know if non-targa seal would work after this mod?
I did do a search and found nothing.

You're better off to buy a hardtop, it would be easier in the long run. No, you can't use the hardtop seals afterwards, the design is totally different. After all the fab work - and that's going to be huge, it would be easier to cut off the roof and weld on one from a hardtop - you'll still need new seals, new roof drip rails, b-pillar exterior panels, and headliner.

The fab work would be brutal... notice that the roof doesn't touch the body except where the bolts are. So you'd end up adding material all the way across the front and the back.

Lastly, what's the point? Why not just leave the roof bolted in? Why not leave yourself the option? I mean, if only get laid 5 times in 4 years, I'm not going to hack off my unit for weight savings.

LOL grim that made my night!

also if your caging the car, its alot easier to weld and fit the cage with the top off

I agree, on both parts here... Working on the interior with the top off is so much more comfortable, and easier to communicate with others while you're doing it. :)

Not only does it look cool going around a track with the top off, Im sure the cage you are putting in will more than make up for the chassis flex.

I dont see any pros to welding it shut, lol.

I agree with buying a hard top. I'll never own a targa again. It's a novality item. That is all. Sunroof ftw.

Yeah, you all make a very good point. I'm just not sure if I would have the courage to take it of after the cage is fully welded. I doubt I would ever get it on again.

MK3's dont give you anything for free, If you want something you have to sacrifice another thing. I sacrificed a lot of things just to make the car look as much stock as possible.

I like my hard top... but if I were you I'd sell it and buy a hard top if you really want one. They aren't like the MKIV where the hard top cars are very hard to find.

i wouldnt buy another supra without a targa, besides the turbo/5spd the removable top is by FAR my favorite feature.

I also couldn't agree more. I take the roof off at every available oppotunity. It turns alot more heads that way too. Just stitch weld your frame and your wet noodle problem is essentially gone!
