Hi,

Yesterday I fix the AC of my supra, and when I turn on, after turn on the water temp (autometer gauge) reach to 230F, Is this normal?

AC Off , the temp is around 180 – 195F

Out side temperature is around 115F.

Cooling system:
Koyo radiator
New antifreeze
180 thermostat
1 bottle Redline water additive
2 OEM aux fans

Other mod’s that I don’t know if affect the cooling system:
FFIM
Big intercooler
T4 turbo

I don’t want a BHG.

115* wow.. not much you can do.. the a/c adds a lot of heat.. You're probably pulling 150+* air across your radiator..

maybe adding a pusherfan infront of the condencer will help with more flow and keep it cooler..

Just wondering, what was the stocker reading?

If you're really worried, about all you can do (assuming the rest of the system is in fact healthy) is get a PWR radiator or throw some more fans at it like tissimo said. Guys who live in AZ should be able to tell you more.

BTW, my car survived running roughly a gallon low on coolant and spiking to 110-115C for 15 minutes. I doubt you need to worry about a BHG.

I come from a land down under
Temp rise is normal when using the AC but that's quite a big jump, I only see a few degrees rise here with my cooling system set up the way it is.

In the Summer heat in traffic AC on stop start driving I see 195f/90c max.

Check your cooling fan clutch , it could be bad ; check or replace thermostat, it could be stuck . do not run without cooling fan shroud when temperature over 90F.:icon_bigg

fan clutch is the only other weak link I'm seeing in your list...

either that or the A/C system isn't charged correctly...

I had a feeling it probably didn't.

Just think, if you didn't have your gauge, you wouldn't even be worried.

(Read: don't worry about it)

I wouldn't have known I was lifting my head w/o the digital water temp gauge.

I had so much air in my coolant, it was run extremely HOT, then burp and go back to normal... then fluctuate again.

Sound like the beginning of the infamous BHG symptom.

Takes a few days to burp all the air from system, it takes the heat and cold cycles to get it all out. Air in water means very poor heat transfer. If it's not a leak, did you let your bottle get low and the tube sucked air?

Carlos - make sure all your fans are working...I would take a good look at the fan clutch as advised.

Do you have a condensor fan (fan #3) installed?
http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?Section=AC&P=30

Here are the temps for fan 3 and the aux fan (fan 2):

As stated, air in the system is not good ;)

Is your Koyo rad a dual core or is it the stock thickness?

Do you have an under tray installed?

If you're running a stock ECU, it will pull timing on ya above 210 deg F...I live in Phoenix (112 here today) and my temps never get over 195-200 degs.

Is your Koyo rad a dual core or is it the stock thickness? I think is dual because is larger

Do you have an under tray installed? Nop

Do you think a water leak can cause the high temp?

Aren't those small electric fans supposed to turn on when you turn on the AC? Mine don't work. My Supra got up to 210F after cruising at about 50mph for alittle while with the AC on full blast on a really hot day.

Carlos - An under tray will help...it can knock 10-20 deg off your temps. A leak will allow air in the sys. I suggest a pressure test and have the fan clutch checked...here's how to check the clutch:
http://www.mkiiitech.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1056

Fletch - take a look at the TSRM link above...it gives the temps the aux fan is suppose to come on.
