I saw this thread and didnt think anything of my new water pump (the stainless/non-cast one). From all the parts I was buying, I just assumed I got it from toyota. I put the water pump on today and the receipt was still in the box. I bought the stainless/non-cast water pump from oreilly's auto parts for $46.99. It's part number CP9100 with a limited lifetime warranty.

Casting is typically more expensive than stamp and bend. Toyota almost always changes things to reduce cost. This is why they are kicking Chrysler's butt out of third place, and Ford is next.
Trust me I know this. I work for Toyota. I work at the plant in Georgetown KY. We build Camrys, Avalons, and Solaras:biglaugh:

ok guys I have 1 rebuilt and 2 new for comparison. In order from left to right. Original oem, New from Oreilly's, New from Autozone, and rebuilt from Oreilly's. Both of Orielly's have a similar but not the same impellar as the Oem. It was posted earlier in the thread that the OEM is stainless, but I thought stainless wasnt attracted to a magnet. Correct me if im wrong guys. If this is true then the OEM is NOT stainless as all three of these stick to a magnet. If anyone knows then chime in. Im kinda leaning toward the rebuilt from Oreillys right now, because it uses the Aisin cast, with new parts. Seem like it would be the best original fit. If anyone knows then enlighten me.

Hmmm...the one I installed did have a SS impeller...I checked it with a magnet myself. It was an OEM pump...bought it online. Are there different versions of this pump available from the dealer?

well Im certain the original pump I took off is original, no only cause it looks it, but it even has Aisins name on the impellar. Magnets stick to all three of them. The original pump is from a JDM motor as well. The only thing i saw that I liked about the new one from Orielly's is that it spins easier than any of the other three.

I'm not doubting you at all...I'm trying to figure out if the one I have is some kind of after market/rebuilt pump. It too is marked Aisin. It was advertised as an OEM pump w/ stainless impeller...I'm looking for the receipt now.

A SS impeller would be awesome it sure isn't going to corrode as fast as the plated steel one will.

If you flush you cooling system at the proper intervals, corrosion of the water pump impeller shouldn't be a problem with any of the pumps.

OK, a few things.

I've coated a pump before, and it later failed. (I think the heat might have wiped out the seal.)

The impeller was steel, but stock it's cadminum plated, so unless you scratch it, rust is not likely. (Especially if your running enough coolant to control the rust.)

Think about this, and I know it was posted, but seems to have been ignored. Your entire engine block is cast iron. It is not coated, but is bare metal. It does not rust out like crazy when you run 50% or better coolant, and change it every few years. (Minimum is 5 right.)

Ok, impeller designs aside, they will all move coolant. I would think you would have to test them to be sure which flows the most, but it's a moot point as the thermostat really only allows coolant to flow when it's open, and I'd guess all of them will flow more coolant than the opening on the thermostat...

So point is any aftermarket, OEM or rebuild should be fine as along as they do not leak. (And the A/M and rebuilds have better warrenties over OEM anyway.) And OEM is Asin, a parts supplier to Toyota, so what a crock of shit that they charge 2 and 3 times what you can get the same part for elsewhere.

You guys know that on average, more than 80% of the new cars today are built with parts other than OEM right? And the trend is parts from China and Mexico, where labor is cheaper. (GM is now building motors in China, and putting them in vehicles built here in the USA... )

LOL, so anyone who thinks they are getting better quality, or being more patriotic by buying american is completely being sold a bill of goods.

Parts are global, production is global and all cars are pretty much global. There is nothing 100% made here vehicle wise that I know of. (Even Hardleys have parts from China in them.. LOL)
