Water pump and fan technical questions

Going to change my water pump because it went bad. I have the 2jz water pump on there, so just going to switch it out. Three questions people:

1. I heard that the OEM water pump uses a plastic blade on the inside versus aftermarket autozone uses a metal one. I did take off my water pump and it was metal on the inside, but I thought my engine builder put on an OEM one. Can anyone comment on this?

2. Should I go TOYOTA OEM or Autozone?

3. I use a 2JZ clutch and fan. I was told that only the turbo clutch and fan can work on this OEM swap for the 1JZ. I read that if you use the 2JZ-GE clutch and fan it actually doesnt fit right cause it sits +/- XX" inches to close or too far foward. Well, what actually determines the height of where the fan sits is the clutch (i have a turbo one) or is it the fan itself sitting at a different offset. My question is will the 2JZ-GE Fan work? with a turbo clutch? and if so, that must mean that the fan itself whether turbo or not, is the same?

Thank you.

i bought mine from toyota but ive never heard about the plastic blade thing...

the clutch is the same there is no turbo clutch or non turbo clutch. But there is a difference in the water pumps (but you dont have to worry about that since you need turbo anyway)

i went for the turbo blade because if its anything like the 7m's was... it had more blades on it for the turbo or some aspect to keep it cooler since the 2jz's will get hotter as a turbo vs non turbo.

but they are definitally different in some way shape or form.... 2jzge fan is around 65$ 2jzgte fan is around 100$ new

I have bought over ten OEM water pumps (mostly to sell) none of them have been plastic.

As far as the clutch fan it is giri giri on the distance from the end of the blade to the rad, But what I think most people are concerned about it where it sits in relation to left and right of the rad Most sit in the middle but when I used the clutch fan on my 90 it sat to the left of the rad not centered.

blade # difference, i think the n/a has 6 or 7 and the turbo has like 8 (just got it in the mail today)

the fitment was pretty close to my radiator but i dont think it was any different than when my 7m was in there with its (interestingly enough higher blade count) fan.

curious why you would want to use a n/a fan though? turbo can coool betta

and also since my fan+clutch are in with my 2j i was curious what others were using for a shroud o_O

I forgot to mention that if you use the GE fan it samcks the water neck it sits to close to the water pump, we did a similar swap on an Aristo from GE to GTE (GTE was hydraulic fan) had to scrap the fan because it did not sit on the GTE water pump correctly it hit the water neck/upper hose. SO we used the Supra GTE fan.

Your absolutely right, but the GE fan can still be used. Yes gentlemen you can use it, you just have to use two washers per stud on the clutch and it spaces out perfectly with no unbalanced issues because the washers are evenly spaced and all weigh the same. I just confirmed it. It comes not awful close or anything to the water neck, it has ample spacing.

yup thats how you get around it :)

but again why a 2jzge fan? less blades = less weight or you already have one sitting around? :)

then again im sure it doesnt get very hot where you live

Sweet! Glad it worked out four washers are way cheaper than another clutch fan, we were going to do the same thing but just did not want to risk it, and we had the parts available at the touch of a phone key pad so it was no big deal. Glad it worked out

Yeah, washer are between the clutch and the fan. Not the clutch and the pulley. The pulley has a concentric ring to it, that does not allow for washers to sit flush and then will make your fan wobble. If you need pictures or any further help, let me know, I will be glad to help.

i bought a water pump for the 2jzgte and it had plastic blades. The benifit of plastic over metal is when it does eventually fail, it wont cut into the block or start scoring it.

cant comment on fan, I use twin electric.
