Hi,

When I start my car and it's been raining, I'm getting a sound much like water gurgling away behind the dashboard, yet there's no water in my car. I had a jag a few years ago with a similar symptom, and there was a duckbill shaped rubber funnel that used to drain water from the scuttle panel to the ground, this filled up with crud over the years, and the water backed up. I'm guessing I've got a similar thing, but I can't find a rubber funnel that is blocked anywhere.

I guess someone else must have had this, anyone got any hints for me?

ive heard this too im mine however i think it has something to do with the AC system. leaning more to the heater than the cooling part, as coolant runs through it and its right up against the firewall

hmmm, interesting. How long has yours done it dude? I shouldn't panic too much about this then? I was thinking I must have some blocked /restricted hoses or something lol.

Air in the cooling system makes this happen because the heater core is the highest point in the system, however, there shouldn't be air in your system and it can be cause by multiple things such as coolant leaks, blown head gasket, or there was a coolant flush done recently and it wasn't bled properly.

no problem, tomorrow I'm going to jack the front of the car up so the radiator is the highest point in the system and then basically just burp it. I'll report back with my findings...

yeah i had a leaky hose and i couldnt find it and i didnt have time to pressure test it at the time and the leak wasnt that bad... but when i did have time to pressure test it and fix it i didnt hear it anymore after that.

EDIT: just let your car run without the rad cap out and that will get all the air out... also make sure your overflow tank has water in it as well... you might want to pressure test it as well

If the little hose between the radiator filler and the bottom of the overflow bottle has a leak anywhere in it, it will also suck air back into the system upon cooldown(sort of like sucking through a straw with a hole in it)

Before you try to expel air form the system, find the spot the air got into the system, might be minor, could be major. Fix it, then do it. If you need any help, do search, there are plenty, plenty of threads on this, just so you know.

Gurgling, waterfall sound.

Ive looked and im not leaking coolant anywhere but i havnt tryed to burp it yet as i want to just fully flush it change both hoses, The cap, The thermastat and put toyota red in it when i do, But the cars down right now anyways so no big deal for me.

Mines was doing it on startup when it was cold so today I jacked up the car and bled the system, but I went for a drive and my coolant light came on, guess I still didn't get all of the air out, my reservoir was over the full mark when I left, only drove for maybe 5 minutes, My resivoir bottle is sealed, havent pressure tested the system yet. I couldnt see if the bottle was empty or not(dark out) but I added a bit and the light went off.. guess its tommoro's job.

your heater core is constantly circulating unless you turn on your a/c

I may be wrong, but I thought the heater core only circulated with the heat on. Isn't that the purpose of the heater control valve?

there is no "heater" switch so even logically this doesn not work.

the control valve only switches when the "AC" button is pressed

I stand corrected. That's probably why I used the terms "I may be wrong",and "I thought".Never said there is a "heater" switch either.Just because the controls aren't specifically designated as "hot" and "cold" doesn't mean that isn't their function.Anyways this thread isn't about correcting me,it is about helping a fellow supra owner.

not trying to be a dic, but EVERY thread is potentially about correcting people, OP or not. If everyone had it right, there would be no need for places like this ;)

The valve closes whenever the climate control system is set below 66 F (AC or not) and even then it maintains a small amount of flow through the core...

That is why I said to make sure "heat" was on.The heater core is less likely to trap air in it if the heater valve is fully open correct?

If you're gonna correct my terminology could you also answer my question, what purpose does the heater control valve serve? Doesn't it restrict flow to the heater core when the temp is turned down on the climate control so as not to have hot air emanating from your dash?
