Videos of good running Supras

crisp, you using that smiley while talking about seagulls has me a bit worried :aigo:

Blue, what happened to make you need a rebuild? I think I hear a bit of actual rod knock in the first video but can't be sure. The "after rebuild" videos sound almost identical to my engine, which has also recently been rebuilt!

I think i hear it slightly too

As for your rebuild as i said valvetrain noise will be there it just wont be as noticable if everything is within spec. the injectors also makes a audible ticking noise. It will be LOUD if they arent in spec like my car

I've been having problems with a weird tapping noise that seems to be coming from my engine for ages now, and after looking up some Supra videos on youtube and listening to them, it seems 7Ms are noisy in general. I've seen a bunch of videos where the same exact noise is present! I still don't really trust that my engine is ok (I'm very paranoid), so does anyone have videos of their good running Supras idling?

I'm looking for a 7M-GTE in particular but figure if everyone posts up videos of their Supras that they know for sure are running without issues other members can reference them when they're worried about noises :)

Stock 7m is one of quietest cars....until you start adding the go fast stuff. Might have a exhaust leak?

There are certain laws of physics that just can't be violated. For instance, when you start an automobile engine you will hear engine noise and feel some vibration.

Unless you are in a 1990 Toyota Supra Turbo.

This $25,000 Japanese sport coupe is far and away one of the smoothest and quietest cars I've ever been in.

Even with the air conditioning on, you have to strain to detect even the slightest vibration or engine noise. Toyota uses fluid-filled engine mounts to absorb the engine's vibration. The system works flawlessly.

George, I'll be sure to read that out loud to my 90t when I get it back. ;)

Bluechulappa's "after" video sounds alot like my car (before the exhaust leak). So, our engines are not being rebuilt to factory spec.. Probably takes more time and effort to get the clearances just right..So my question is twofold:
1. does it hurt to leave the clearances the way as is?
2. If desired, how does one go about fixing the clearances?

I've done the clearances on my car personally 3 times now and it's still making tons of noise.... I'm thinking maybe my cams themselves are moving back and forth or something along with the valves? My actual valve ticking is pretty quiet, but there's that louder tapping noise that I can't figure out.

Warped Cam Saddles? Loose Cam bearing caps?

I dunno if I had rod knock in the first video. I doubt it cause it was very long ago when the car was running fine. I didn't notice rod knock till almost a year after that video and that's when I rebuilt. The rod knock damage was very minimal as well. Who knows!
