I saw this a couple weeks ago and kinda liked it.

Then Tanya posted this and I really liked it,followed the body lines a bit better and looked cleaner IMO.

So tonight I decided to cut my stock hood up,got one side all roughed in tonight, gonna finish it up over the next few days.

I have to brace the edges around the openings underneath, but I'm pretty sure I have that figured out. What do you think?

did u just cut it then bend the metal? hope it goes well. If it turns out good maybe ill give it a shot.

Basically. The "flaps",or sides of the openings are part of the hood itself. The openings were trapezoid shaped before bending, then took a piece of thin angle iron and clamped it underneath between the skin and frame to use as a kind of dolly to bend the metal and leave a nice radius, then just welded a piece of sheetmetal across the bottom of the opening. Was pretty easy, just hard to cut up a nice hood.

Wow, looks nice! Most people just talk about how much they like it and wish for someone to make one, but you've actually gone and done it.

Thank you.I have done metal work for quite some time, but just recently learned to weld good(instead of blowing holes in the metal).Opened a whole new world of possibilities for custom work.

I'm likin it alot! I always put that hood on my cars in the nfs games =P. Often wondered what it would look like on the mkiii, and it looks good man. I agree, with penguin you didnt just wish or dream about it you just got your sh^t and did it. Very respectful.

Wow! Great effort.

Possible if you can take the pic of the complete hood? :icon_razz

Sure,I will do it later.I just went and kicked the heat up in the garage so I can go out and work on it.Only took pic of that side 'cause I haven't done the other side yet.Got the other side all measured out though.I will take some pics of the bottom when I get that done also.

Awesome work man, that looks pretty good. I've been thinking of having my hood custom done to allow for better cooling

That is awesome! If it would be possible to persuade you ($) to do my hood let me know. I don't know where you are in Indiana but I wouldn't mind making a drive!

Still have to weld some bracing underneath as it's pretty flexy ATM.So far so good though.

Very nice! Now get it molded for CF...

Thought about it,Have been looking into getting some carbon fiber sheet and resin to try and make a few smaller parts first.I know how to make fiberglass molds, assume it's the same, gonna research it a bit more though.
