long story short, motor was professionally assembled, reputable machinist(or so i hope in this case), i have put on all acc. and is almost ready to drop in. BUT last night i was installing the cps and i had made sure that the piston closest to the front of the engine was at tdc on compression stroke, But my cam lobe is in the completely wrong spot compared to the tsrm, so here's this as a reference, excuse the sloppiness lol

if you want to go deeper than that or if you are not familiar with how it should be, here you go,
http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?Section=IG&P=21
My current understanding is, that when the cylinder closest to the front of the engine is at tdc, the intake cam should be at the tsrm's pictured position, and then move the crank pulley to where its mark is pointing at the 10 on the front timing cover, and i should install the cps then. Or am i wrong? Or is my head not in time with the short block as it should be. Send me in the correct direction please!
any and all input appreciated, thanks
charles

If you're at all concerned, I'd pull the top timing belt cover, crank the front main pulley around to zero degrees, and make sure the cam gears line up with the notches in the rear cover.

It's not that big of a deal to do, and it sure takes the guesswork out of it.

that was the battle plan, but i was just seeing if it was my classic stupidity shining though again. And if they dont? just adjust them accordingly? but am i right about the whole cps procedure thing, and shouldn't my cam lobe be in that position at tdc?

will do. not sure if you are familiar with the chilton's manual on our cars, but that is all i had at the time (i have the real deal tsrm now, wish i did then) but he requested i bring it to him(him being my machinist) for the little odd's and ends, i'm not sure if this would be listed in there, if it wasnt and he did not install the gears correctly, what do i do? And what on the cam gears should line up with the marks on the cover? I looked at this
http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?S=EM&P=29
but my cam gears are polished and i don't recall seeing these little notches. But there still is the chance that the marks were not aligned and it was installed anyways? i guess i'll just check and see and go from there huh? well thanks for everyting so far, you'll be hearing from me soon :)

i was having issues while doing timing... and i was thinking of how to do it. so i set it per the tsrm. crank at 0, verified it was at TDC, set the cams with the one being 1 or 2 teeth off, and then put the belt on, gave it a few spins and then put the CPS in, and then when i first started the motor i had to set my timing and everything was 100% a ok. as long as your lining everything up, and your cam gears are on right, i wouldnt worry about where the cam is.
