hey i have valve rattle when i start my 1jz when cold ,is this normal ? im running moble 1 synthetic and it does it even after a fresh oil change . should i reshim valves ? it clears up after 3 or 4 seconds.

thanks . whats wierd is it only lasts for 3or 4 seconds . i figured if it was a clearance problem it would rattle all the time. but when i crank it the idle shoots up to 2k then 1.5 then slowly falls to around 1k . do you think its jumping to quickly in rpm for the oil to get to the head?
Are you SURE it's the valves? Sounds like bottom end to me. If your bearing clearances are out of spec, your rods will rattle around on the crank until pressure builds.

I've had a friend who's exhaust cam seized in the head. Maybe oil passages are clogged? I'll bet accusump would stop it. Still doesn't fix the problem haha.

thanks ive had them off to swap for polished covers . your right its easy.its just cold and rainy
Its a wix oil filter its smaller than the stock its an rx7 filter . The reason is because i have a sandwich plate made for an rx7 to pick up for my oil pressure gauge. I have no idea if it does have a antidrainback valve .
what does the valve do ? does it keep the oil in the passages and filter from returning to the pan?
hey sorry for not posting back i found out i have a puralator filter do these have a anti drainback valve?
Yep get a filter with the valve, might have accelerated the wear a little but shouldn't have hurt it too badly.
