'86.5-90 fronts are 4". '91-'92 fronts are 6.5"

86.5-'88 rears are 4.5", but 5.25" can be made to fit. It's not an EASY fit, but it works. If you're not up to doing some cutting and making stuff work, you're best off sticking with 4" back there, too.

'89-'92 also have 3.5" speakers in the rear shoulder rests, which (IMO) are best disconnected and removed.

One of my friends have 01 MDX bose speakers and they sound very good, Im thinking of doing the same setup since its more cost effective then buying aftermarket. sorry cheap mk3 owner :biglaugh:

I replaced my rear speakers with 5 1/4, and it wasn't hard. All you have to do is drill new holes for the speakers to screw into.

I test fit my Polk db501 (might be the 521, 5.25" speakers, I don't remember), they fit both in the doors and in the rear area. Really anything is possible if you are clever enough. Hell, I've seen 6x9's in the back of a Supra or two... NOT easy, but it can be done.

After years of fiddling and fiberglass enclosures in the doors, I've come to the conclusion that the supra will never have a good full front stage.

I fit in some 5 1/4" Alpine Type-R's in the front and then put some 6x9" Focal's in boxes in the back. The speaker boxes fit perfect pushed to the front of the trunk area when the targa was in (I almost always had the rear seats down). When the targa is bolted in place they were just under the rear targa brackets. They really didn't move much unless you really wanted to push the car hard around corners, and if that was the case I would just unhook them.

Found out the hard way that having mine set up like this wasn't the brightest idea... then I finally bought some latches and bolted them to the sub box, they stopped moving around on me. ;)

Ahh, to be young and dumb haha. :p

you can get good front sound stage it is just going to take work. best option is to find some 6.5" 91-92 speaker pods or some replicas (KevinM made some) a good set of two way speakers (Hertz, Focal, Alpine Type R) then Flush mount the tweeters in the A pillar. also be running a good amplifier otherwise all of this would be pointless:icon_bigg

I have the 6" speaker pods (Kevin M) for my front doors and plan on leaving the 4" rears (tiny guys... replaced already) in the rear and then putting a pair of 6" in the "arm rest" area of the rear seats. Coupled with 2x 12" subs in the hatch area.. I will have enough sound. I dont boom the car, but I like having "complete" sound while driving.

Exactly what I did :). A proper amp makes a HUGE difference. Went from powering off the deck to getting just a small 4x50w (so theoretically the same power) Alpine amp and wow! The sound was much cleaner and crisper, and the crossovers where much easier to work with on the amp to get just right. A good (Alpine Type-R) single 10" was more than enough to support the bass as well. Wasn't a stereo you could hear thumping from 4 blocks away, but incredibly clean and balanced sound.

hey...it runs

It's solid metal behind the rear armrest covers.

At one point in time, I had a 3 way set of 6.5", 4" and 1" in the doors of my Mk3.

I sold off the 6.5" enclosures a few years ago. (They replaced the map pockets at the bottom of the door.) since I was planning on making nicer 6.5" enclosures for the doors, but I haven't actually built them yet. Other things taking priority. Actually, since the last time my car was broken into (3 years ago) I've lost a lot of motivation for rebuilding the audio system.
