That trim is reusable..........and from what I can see, it looks like some pretty good trim. Just be patient removing it. What are you gonna do with that rust? You just priming for now, and repainting later? If it's going to the paint shop, I'd let them fool with the moldings.

Im gunna get rid of the rust and then primer the pillers up to the targa seal black.

AFAIK, you can reuse the trim if you don't break it. Sand the rust area, prime & paint.

BTW, from the reflections that I see in the shots, Im calling BS you're a girl untill we see some proof.

Well you can always do this!!!! The white one was the donor car, :aigo:

I had the same rust problem on my mint 88 to 92 conversion project. Since I am doing a full restore I decided to drill out all of the spot welds on the old window frame and install a new rust free frame from my donor car. It is all done and better then new no rust on the car what so ever, Never could tell that the otter frame was removed.:naughty:

mgtepat is correct with the right way to do it, but if you cant do the work yourself that way is way exspensive. I would pull the trim carefully. Breaking the trim is not the problem the clips are. I would take it to the metal, use some of that stop rust stuff that may or may not work. Light spot putty over the affected areas and prime, paint and clear. Hopefully you get a color match. The rust may come back but if you keep it clean and keep wax on it, it should last for a while.

The best place to buy rust supply's is Eastwood Company, they have a great web site to order stuff off of. It is expensive but is the best and 98% of the Hod Rod guys use it, It is called Eastwood Rust converter followed by rust Encapsulator. Then you Top coat with chassis Black for increased durability and then prim and paint it. Also it would be better to use lead instead of the standard body filler. It is more work and takes some practice to do right but in the long run will last longer. If possible blast the rust spots with glass bead to get in to the pores.

I had that entire part of the pillar done on my car with new trim installed for like $200 or so. Maybe it was $150. It wasn't that much. The guy even had to dig out all the silicone from a bad windsheild replacement from a few years ago.

If you break the clips on the moldings, and the moldings themselves are in fact good, you can buy the clips alone. BUT, iirc the clips came out only a few dollars less than new moldings.
not to mention new moldings come with clips :p

Good luck! I hate rust...
