Just a stupid idea, why not for a track only type car run a 2nd motor to power the turbo? Basicaly a small gas powered engine in the trunk(whever) to power a turbo to create boost, leaving the exhaust totally free?

Is it just not worth it because turbos only rob a minor amount of power? It would be kinda cool just to see it done though I think...

the weight of the motor and batteries would offset ANY gain from doing it this way...

The last time I saw a motor that was made to test roots style superchargers, it was almost as big as an engine and needed nealry a room of electrical components to step up the power from the wall...

"Most innovative" award in the class has to go to the quick White Lightning of Will Mathews. In the back-seat area, Mathews has installed a 60-hp two-stroke engine, just to run the supercharger. It's unusual ("and it's really noisy in there," Mathews told us) but effective.

Thats from the reno air races a few years back. i like the idea. just think: all that empty space in the hatch...mount a motor in back just to run a supercharger...as much pressure as you want at any rpm with zero lag...:jizz:

with that setup, a 360 cubic-inch motor was hangin' with 540 cubic inch motors....

Ill be nice
gtfo.gif

gain is minimal
loss is ALOT

All the space for the extra equipment extra gas etc...
Also the turbo works off of the gases being pushed out of the engine so the more the engine works the more the turbo works! so they work together two engine would demand synchronization you dont want the little engine pumping 100% when you dont need it when idling at a light...

a more efficient design i would like is combining the hybred motor, Starter and , Alternator into one coil on the back of the engine (i think toyota is doing this though)

or maybe electric power steering pumps you dont need power steering when going streight parked in traffic infact we should have only 1 pump in the entire car what about that as an idea have one electric pump in the whole car!

1 pump that haves one shaft and pumps both (oil/water) for your engine all the time when its on and a minute after you turn it off(i call this turbo timer for the whole engine system) on this one electric pump have a clutch to control other parts of the pump and turn it on when you need it like turn on the fuel pump runs when engines on on the same shaft have a clutch that kicks on your AC pump when you turn the AC on the on the same shaft have a power steering pump the turns on only when you turn your car while going slow when you need it only!

every 150,000 miles you change only one pump in your whole car the only thing your engine haves is pistons crank no other moving parts or mass atached to it! that is where we could use (1) pump! why havent anyone invented this!

They have electric clutches most new AC systems use them on the compressor

This one pump could be fit into any car any make and all cars use these so why not make it standard and 1 thing

Heh, a small gas engine? Again, think about how much HP a turbo or SC will rob from your engine to make boost - a lot depending on boost pressure, turbo size, etc.. it would take something w/ enough HP powering a fan which inturn has to out CFM the motor by %50 or so. That's a lot of energy.

And second, how can a small gas engine "power the turbo" when it's connected to the motor?

HAHAHAHHAA, some people really scare me...

I've seen arguements about which one is more efficent... There is a reason they banned turbos on top fuel dragsters...
