From Wikipedia.

A special version of the 30V-QDE-TT equipped JZA70, the 2.5 Twin Turbo RR, had black/grey Recaro seats, a Torsen differtial (additional braces to mount the diff), Bilstein suspension and uprated springs, larger sway bars, Momo wheel and gear knob and matching interior trim. This was the fastest factory production version of the MK3 Supra, running a mid 14 second 1/4 mile. The Turbo R also included a change to the R154 gearbox which helped with the well known 1st gear thrust washer problem.

Any truth to the area in bold?

If you got it from wikipedia, I would take it with a grain of salt. Probably the whole bag of salt.

The R154 is exactly the same in the MA70 and JZA70 AFAIK.

Wikipedia is far from a reliable source of information.

Yes, you can edit it yourself, however, you can usually tell how accurate the information is based on how long it survives before someone else corrects it.

Bottom line - for 99% of wikipedia, there are more people posting who know what they are talking about then there are people who are screwing it up.

On the other hand, this is the first I've heard of that particular modification. Considering the other mods they did to this car, I certainly would be less than surprised were this to turn out to be true.
