I'm putting a 7mgte together at the mo and the ct26 has had it, i was intending on keeping the standard turbo with the intention of upgrading later.

however, as i'm going to have to have it rebuilt/get a new one, i was wondering if it's worth upgrading now?

i'm aiming for around the 400bhp mark at the crank but of course i want to avoid the turbo lag, i've seen guys with a 60 trim ct26 but from what i have read this may be too big for my needs/very laggy i have also seen a t4 with a 60 comp wheel and i suspect this is the same situation as the 60 trim?

i have also read about a 57 trim ct26, would this suit my needs or would a standard ct26 flow enough for me??

if someone could point me in the right direction of something that would suit my needs then that would be great, and as usual price is also a factor.

many thanks, John.

You'd be pushing a stock ct26 to get to 400bhp efficiently(actually, you won't make it). A 57 trim seems right up your alley. Just don't forget the supporting mods.

Honestly I have heard that the stock CT26 is prone to fail after about 12-14psi of boost. I would personally get a better turbo for reliability purposes. But I hope you are building the motor to handle it. I have a friend that has a 550whp stock bottom end GTE car. But he has a pretty sick turbo on there.

Please don't post "I've heard" in the tech section.

If you've experienced failures in that boost range by all means but "I've heard" just doesn't cut it here thanks.

Thanks for the helpful info guys, i will be having other sensible mods to suit the boost level.

what's the sensible limit of the 57trim before the 60 is needed?

and is sticking with the CT the cheapest route?

thanks, John.

There has been documented dynosheet of 400+ whp with 57trim. If your crank horsepower goal is around 400 you should be able to accomplish this with supporting mods and tuning. It would only take a few more hundred rpms to spool a 60trim CT. The 60trim has more of a questionable lifespan than the 57trim though.

Sensible setup for a 57 Trim? 15psi? I don't plan for sensible
I dynoed a 60Trim on 12psi(nowhere near efficiency) 318whp and 331tq.

IF cheaper is the focus here, then a upgraded CT would be it.

There are other bolt on turbo's but you are looking @ over a $1k

You might think you only want 350hp or so to the wheels but it is very likely once you feel that you will want more!

Good Luck!
