Its been since 1998 that Ive had to use Trig.

You don't use it, you loose it.

Somebody find x and y for me. Ive come up with too many answers to be correct...

Yes, Law of Sines in this.

X / (sin35) = 4.925 / (sin100)

Y / (sin45) = 4.925 / (sin100)

Although technically, it should be 4.9244289 (square root of 24.25), so your answers are as follows:
x = 2.86810941
y = 3.53581403

:)

Wait wait wait... two 45 degree angles in the triangle = isosceles triangle = the sides are BOTH 4.5".

This means that hypotenuse = sqrt(4.5^2 + 4.5^2) = sqrt(40.5) = 6.363961" (NOT 4.925")
So:

X / (sin35) = 6.363961 / (sin100)
X = 3.70652857"

Y / (sin45) = 6.363961 / (sin100)
Y = 4.56941973"

Either your width between the two rectangles on the left are incorrect, or the length is incorrect. Or the inside angles ;)

I do the same thing when I'm building anything, so it's second nature to check everyone else's numbers to me ;)

Jon - you really want to double check your diagram buddy. Gonna be awful disappointed when you go to build whatever you are building ;)

I thought I had forgotten that trig stuff. I'm being forced to remember it right now in my calc2 class. ::hang::

I hate trig but I know an isosceles triangle when I see one(or should).

lol. I loved trig (I actually find uses for it daily) but Calculus? Fuck that. Calc 2 made no sense to me (only got a B) but Calc 3 is much much better. I can definitely see uses for 3 dimensional calculus, as I could actually use it to better set up fluid dynamics of air through my intercooler, or exhaust out of the turbine section. :)

Use trig daily for building things, though!
