I have to replace my stock BOV as it is completely shot.... so im planning on going with the HKS SSQV. I know there is a kit to recirc it, but if I recirc, will it ruin the sweet sound of the BOV?? I know it wont be as loud but does it still make the whistle? Anybody tried both? I know its better to Recirc for our cars but how much better?
Lots of questions, I know. Thanks

If you're still using the AFM, re-circ is the 'correct' way to do it but you can get away with venting it to atmosphere. I did with my 7M and didn't have any issues.

I don't have to worry about recirculating anything anymore, though.:)

and you will still here it. I could hear my stock 7M one before. and even my stock 1J valve was VERY audible and it is recirculated as well.

The thing i don't like about having the BOV atmospheric is that it makes it very difficult to do proper shifts driving normally because the idle wants to drop whenever you go to shift. Its very annoying and sometimes unsafe. A few times ive been in an intersection and i didn't realize the car has shut off when i went to go.

My HKS SSQV is vented to atmospheres. Everyone talks about how it always wants to fall on its face or want to die after boosting quickly...I've had no problems like that. Obviously, though, with the stock AFM and such, it is "better" to recirculate.

yes it will kill the "whistle". instead it will flutter. i think its worth the 12 dollars for the recir. kit.

Someone told me venting could cause backfires. I get a backfire every so often and I was told it could be because of the venting insted of reserc.

I could do without the whistle if it stops the backfires..

Not necessarily. Supra's have big turbo's. :)

Compressor surge is FTW. :icon_surp

I STILL have compressor surge flutter through my SSQV. That is one thing I love about this BOV...Seems that every other ricer that uses this BOV, it's just a long, high pitch, "CHIRRRP!", but with my Supra....ahhh, it has a really deep and heavy chirp that sort of echo's that makes you want to jump out of your seat...and it makes that flutter a few times along with it....sounds tit's. :) Of course, I think it only sounds like that because of the boost I'm running...so I don't know. :icon_conf

lol, mine backfires all day... dunno why, but the bpv does work correctly, and is recirculated... no boost leaks either... who know's? i think it's just the way my exhaust is set up... pretty much 3" pipe w/ a muffler, lol

Yea. thats how myne is. . Its not recirculated but its a 3" pipe to a mufler. (I actually hate the mufler) but its what was there when I got it. no catalitic converter either I get this low hum at hwy speeds that gives me a headache!

lol... i have a hum... but i thought that was expected... doesn't bug me one bit, but my bpv is circulated, so i dunno why it backfires... i think it actually did it less when i had a bpv that was stuck closed :dunno:

I hope you're joking. Compressor surge is not a good thing. I have a ct26 with massive radial and axial play caused by comp surge to prove it (not to mention leaky seals). Sure, it kind of sounds cool but it isn't good :aigo:

If you're getting some comp surge then you BOV is probably adjusted too tight.

i have the greddy RS BOV --- first I circulated it, there's an adapter you can buy that comes in 3 sizes.... it worked great, still heard it, etc... but then I want maftpro so i just vent now. i have the adapter if you decide to get that bov i'll sell it to you.

Well of course I am. I guess I didn't show enough sarcasm. I probably do need to readjust my BOV, but the quick flutter is nothing like what you're probably imagining. If you watch any Supra videos, (specifically the "Big Supra Video's), My Supra sounds identical to the way most of those MKIV's sound with the HKS SSQV. Just a direct comparison...
But yeah, you're correct. Compressor surge is not a good thing. :icon_razz
