My wife's dad was the second owner of this car and it was given to us bone stock with 116K on the clock. Beforehand it had been sitting in his garage for the last 6 years. Since I've had it I've been fixing/replacing little things to get it back into great shape. In my usual fashion anything I find broken or worn out is replaced with upgraded bits when possible.
Last week cruising through town it started missing, puffed a white cloud and started overheating. Not a huge deal as I had already planned on doing a HG job and had most of the parts already. While I have the motor out I'll be replacing other hard to get to things as well. Right now I'm just making sure everything is in good shape for a solid platform to upgrade.
List of parts so far:
-Silicone hoses...everywhere, every single hose in the engine bay except the washer nozzles.
-Stainless T-Bolt clamps for all hoses of significant size.
-OEM head gasket
-Aftermarket engine gasket set
-OEM EGR Cooler gasket
-ARP head studs
-7/16" exhaust studs/nuts/helicoils
-OEM CPS cover
-Power steering pressure line
-Water pump
-HKS Type-1 turbo timer and harness
-New filters
-New fluids everywhere
-Polyurethane engine mounts and trans mount.
-DM softline kit
-A/C system retrofit and new o-rings
-Timing belt
-89+ TEMS actuators
-Get head decked
Plans for the car are to get it restored cosmetically and go with a 57 trim turbo with supporting mods. Much later down the road a 2J may find its way into the bay.
