Over the years I have sold a bunch of these MHG and I have never heard of any bad things or poor product performance. I woud like to hear from anyone who runs a Titan MHG to chime in and give your thoughts and your set up so that I may use your exp. with the product to enlighten future users. Thank you in advance!

Rich;

I can't speak from personal experience as I have an HKS 1.2mm...but I too have sold a crap load (especially 2.0mm) without one call back. I have to assume that they are top notch as not one person has complained in so many years.

Funny you mention that Aaron...a good friend and mine had a look at the titan and hks mhg's side by side one day and marvelled at how 'similar' they look. My money says that Titan doesn't make them...if I didn't know any better I would say that HKS doesn't make their own either and one company makes both...but that's just a wild and crazy theory I had one day with too many Alexander Keiths in my belly!!

Uncle Rich here knows the answer to that question, but will never tell.

Thank you for your replies - Keep them coming.

All you guys running the Titan gaskets, what kind of power are you throwing at it?

I bought one from Karaki. Its being installed today. Im only pushing 15PSI to start. Ive read many reviews on these gaskets in the past and never read anything bad. (except when it was bad prep work) but this goes for any mhg

ive seen a cometic and a titan MHG side by side, they look identicle.

i had a "cometic" MHG leak due to a bad block prep and i am using a "titan" MHG right now.

so far so good, i do not like to speak in absolutes because whenever i do the car breaks down.

so, its been good so far and thats all ill say :)

I can't say they are a bad gasket but I did manage to have one leak on me, by no fault of the gasket however. I had a wastegate hose melt. The head lifted. The gasket never blew but it did leak after this. Compression was going between cylinders and to 2 of the coolant jackets, but the gasket was still completely intact when I changed it.

Also two years ago detonation cracked the thin area between two cylinders on the embossed layers of another cometic I had. I have seen HKS do this as well but not on any of my cars. I cracked an HKS stopper gasket after driving near 30 hours in 1 weekend. The dowel pin expanded and the gasket cracked from the edge, through the dowel pin hole and to #6 on the embossed layer again. Seems to me you have to watch the embossed spring steel layers. Appears they get brittle after many heat cycles. My preference is the greddy gasket now. I think they are using a different alloy, or temper spring steel, or possibly both but I have no evidence of this.

I think the Cometic gaskets are often used by people who heard that they are "more forgiving", but they find out quickly that they will blow just as easily as any other gasket is there is detonation or a deck that is not properly surfaced.

Hello Aaron,
Although I have witnessed distorted MLS HGs, lean-burn detonation is better known to result in broken ring lands. Yes, even on forged slugs...as they normally are mated to big-Ts which make lean-burn det all that more severe:icon_conf

As for surfacing, we all know that is S.O.P.* for any MLS HG.

I have the 1.4mm Titan gasket in my 89' turbo, no problems, motor put out 347 @ the wheels with a major leak at the exhaust manifold, back 3 studs were stripped. No problems as of yet running 17psi.

iirc the hks mhg has an 85mm bore and he titan/cometic has an 86mm bore. now, while no one may have ever had a prob with the titan/cometic units, i will always buy the hks. i want that extra 1mm between the cylinders.

I've been to titan motorsports, I'm pretty sure they don't "make" anything in house. Its kinda like summit racing parts. They are just other makers parts rebranded for a little less cost.

I don't know if it's the gasket, but 300 miles after a shop installed it I noticed moisture down the sides of my block. Titan 2.0mm. Is there maybe rivets that the shop was supposed to remove?
