SO I found out I'm moving to NC in the next couple months and I was going to tint my car this week haha Are there any laws up that way that some might know of for how dark your tint can be?

I believe its 35%. I had my Lincoln tinted and thats what they said the limit was. And its no joke either, Ive been pulled over in a different vehicle and slapped with a $225 fine for tint, so play by the rules on this one.

ahhh man are you serious?! geez and her I was used to my 5-10% tint

Yeh 35 percent is correct. Where in NC are you going to be moving to? I noticed you said NC state, but that could be misinterpreted. There a decent amount of people, seeing more and more everyday...saw a nice orange mk3.

Check out importsnc.com for local meetsups.

Wonderful, that's like no tint really... What about the back window, can it be darker? Or does it have to be 35% all around?

We're moving to the Raleigh area actually, I've heard good things about it... Hopefully I can make some new friends up that way and def those with mk3's

Exhausts arent too bad, Ive never had a complaint on mine and its really loud! But when I got the ticket for tint, I was told that I was pulled over because of my tint, no speeding or anything else....so yeah, they will just stop you to check your tint on your vehicle.

If the cop is having a bad day, he can pull you for tint. But, if it doesn't look like you got a can of spray paint and painted your windows, he will most likely not notice unless you are being a jackass. The technical rule is 35%, but their is a 3% margin of error for the tint meter, so you can actually have down to about 32%. However, you may need that 3% margin, as I know the meter at the shop I inspect at is about 3-4% off. I myself am getting ready to do about 25%. IMO, their is no need for 5 or 10% tint, as you REALLY can't see out at night, and that actually endangers people. However, if you stay at about 25%, I don't see you having an issue unless you get pulled for something else. However, tint is checked at inspection time, so I'd advise you find a friendly station as well. PM me if you have any more general NC car questions.

That's good to know yeah I think I might go a bit under like 25-30, here in SUNNY FL we need dark tint to keep the heat out ugh Yeah I'm not into that doing stupid driving stuff, too much to worry about wit certifications and licenses to loose them over such a thing.

Inspection time? Like a DUI check point type thing?

I think it also depends on what year the car is because if I'm not mistaken if it is the older supra like 86-89 I think it can be as dark as you want because they made the law for how dark your tint can be around 1991 or somethin like that so you might be able to get away with it.

This was somethin I have heard so dont flame me for it. I would like to know if this is true aswell.

thanks.

What's dumb about the law is limos and single cab pickup trucks can have tint down to 5%.

Be careful though. Even if there is a 3% margin, your stock non-tinted window might be 3% according to the meter.

Highly incorrect. The only law exempting any cars from inspection is the 35 year rule. If the car is 35 or older it doesn't have to be inspected any more. The only tint law excluding anything is that if it is considered a truck, suv, or van you can have as dark as you want behind the drivers door. Law enforcement, and some commercial vehicles are exempt. You can also be exempt if you have a prescription from your doctor saying you have a sensitivity to sun light.

Yea, anything below 35 is illegal on cars in NC. If you do get it less than that you will need a connection who does inspection. New NC law is that your car must be inspected before you can register it. I have 10% on my truck though so I know what you mean about liking dark tint. I've been pulled over for tint about 3 times. Gotten 2 warnings and one ticket. You have the option of removing the tint and not paying a fine. Sucks that you're moving to Raleigh. If you were closer to Charlotte I could hook you up with an inspector.

Before it is said, PLEASE, do not mention any inspectors or stations. I could see that going very badly for the inspector. I myself have not received an inspection ticket yet, but I would be a very mad inspector if a thread on SM caused me to get a ticket. If you have a hookup, PM the guy.
