I'm confused since i think my shift fork is from a different year, possibly a pre 89? I have the old throwout bearing that snaps on to the old shift fork, But this new throw out bearing i got with my new SPEC clutch, doesn't work with my shift fork. Does anyone know anything about the different year shift forks and throwout bearing installation. By the way this is a w-58 5-speed transmission on an 89'.

I've never seen both side by side, but might it be for a R154?

it's for the w-58, I just need an 89+ shift fork. I had a wtb in the wanted ads sections for a 89+ shift fork off a w-58.

Part number for the N/A fork changes half way through 88. Not sure what the difference is.

Release bearing part number changed at a different date (last month of 88 production).

As far as I know, the early and late forks are interchangable.

when your trans is in neautral and the clutch is disengaged you would here kind of a ticking sound. and also when its being engaged it sounds like metal on metal contact. its noticable as hell also. and IMO i wouldnt use the throw out bearings from after market clutch kits they go out ALOT quicker than the stocker id go to toyota and by the stock replavement one. but thats just my 2 sense............. i know this because ive had to replace it thrre times now........i went factory and havent had a problem since

You should aim atleast 1 of your 6 senses toward literacy. It would help get your 2 cents across. Stellar. Californias youth of tomorrow. Our future can't even spell people. But he knows about throw out bearings. hmmmm.

Nothing if you don't know any better.
ok. Do u have any input? about your knowledge of shift forks and bearings in different years? I checked with toyota and i went and got the part numbers from the catalog, and it doesn't Look like the same "new" throwout bearing i got, It looks like the older style throwout bearing. I need the part number for the shiftfork that works with this throwout bearing i got with this SPEC clutch kit.

He was talking about bluedragon17's post IIRC, not yours.

Can you not use a Toyota TO bearing on the SPEC pressure plate? Maybe SPEC gave you the wrong TO bearing?

Regardless, there are only 2 shift forks, and they're interchangable (AFAIK), so if something is not working right, chances are it's the wrong TO bearing.

Chris89..., try having the dealer do a search on your vin number. Toyota always orders the wrong parts for me unless I give it to them first. And ya..., I wasn't talking about you. A few mis-spelled words is one thing but a fully loaded paragraph..., c'mon already.

I was looking around and i found my original shift fork, but not throwout bearing. Here's some pics... Also can u tell me a couple things about why the shift lever in the transmission, looks banged up... Look at the pic of the transmission. Also can u tell that there are 2 washers missing from the gasket, are they Manditory? Aren't there a bunch of u guy's who bought a new clutch for your na and got this same bearing?!? what did u do?!? OR could i just get a Heavy Duty Shifter bushing that can stand alot more abuse?? I really don't want to pull the tranny apart, it looks like a nightmare.

The washers are to keep you from crushing the rubber gasket. Yes, you need them. The shift fork looks fine, but the bushing where the shifter goes looks a little worse for wear. It looks like the clip on the throw out bearing is upside down. I should, if the lift's clear, be pulling mine Sunday. I'll try to get a pic up of how it goes together.

ok. does the part where the shifter go need to be replaced. I've been having problems where the little rubber nylon bushing that goes on the tip of the shifter disenegrates after 2-3 weeks. Not sure if it's the gear oil i was using, 75w90 synthetic, or if it's that busing at the end of the shifter rod coming from the transmission. I bought non synthetic 80w90 this time, I hope it makes it run smoother.

Yeah, it looks pretty beat up. It's supposed to be round and smooth, where yours looks kinda square on the end I can see. I'd check the dealer and make sure its still available before you take it out, though. I don't think the type of oil you use will disintegrate the nylon bushing on the shifter. I had a similar prob. recently, though. The bushing was popping off the shifter and hiding up under the boot. Put in a different shifter and solved the problem. Apparently, running it for so long without the bushing wore some of the metal off the end of the shifter, making the bushing fit loose. Luckly, the shifter in my parts car still had the bushing on it.
