I would still like to see someone elses shift fork with the bearing i got with my SPEC kit. I don't know if it would be ok to reuse my Old throwout bearing and shift fork. The bearing is still super smoother and should work just fine, I wasn't sure if there was anything really different with the two bearings? I wonder if that Shift shaft peice is replacable. I bought a new bushing from toyota but i'm worried about the banged up part maybe it's getting to hot and killing the Bushing.

Turns out, I have the same throw out bearing you do. The reason I was gonna change it was because it squeaks if I don't have my foot on the pedal. I'm gonna order a new throw out bearing from Toyota tomarrow. I should have the pics I took today uploaded to myspace in a little bit. I'll post a link when I get it done.

Put the pics up in the vBPicGallery. The one labeled mod is what you need. I just squeezed the ends of the clip together with pliers to make it hold the bearing snugly on the fork.

Yeah i ordered a new bearing and it's the same bearing that came with the spec kit. Mine makes some pretty bad noises when the clutch isn't applied, Pretty loud tapping.

its pretty simple...... slide the fork under the metal clips and then install it. Make sure the fork, clips, and bearing dont come off of each other.

Tapping noise? Like a rodknock type sound? I have the same issue that you have. When i press the clutch the noise goes away i changed my pilot and throwout bearing and the noise is still there. I am thinking my tranny is done.

It's really weird, Isn't it? It wasn't doing it until after 60 miles of driving. Replace your transmission and tell me if it fixed it, LOL. I don't see how it could be the transmission, I don't get it. I'm going to use this different bearing and see if it fixes it.

well my case is a bit different..... I have been boosting 14psi on the w58 with a 6 puck ceramic disc and a heavy duty pressure plate for a year and a half. I am not 100% sure that its the tranny yet but i will find out shortly.

Not totally sure but I think the w58 tranny isn't supposed to peak past 450hp.

lol, Yeah i think he's right. I thought it was, it wouldn't be safe to put down more than 350whp. That's pretty awesome, if it's holdin' up with that much power!

What throwout bearing are u using? I'm using the old style throwout bearing, and i think that's my problem. I'm going to reinstall it with the later style bearing and see if it fixes my problem.

Um sure on fresh one. But come on now i have been abusing the w58 for 6years and not to mention it when i bought it had 170,000+ miles on that tranny. I drive her everyday soooo i think it safe to say that that tranny had 300,000+ miles on her. I went through 2 N/A motors and it has been getting overly abused for a year and half at 14psi. It served its time.

Ok, i put the newer styler bearing on and reinstalled everything and it does the same Mother Fu*king! thing! it starts tapping and crap.... but goes away when i push the clutch in.... I didn't unbolt the clutch kit and flywheel... i just left them....... Maybe there's a problem in the clutch or flywheel.... or even transmission!?!??!

i took everything(disc, pilot bearing, throwout bearing, and pressure plate) to my clutch builder and he said everything was in great shape..... So the only other thing he felt it could be was the tranny.

yeah. when i was pulling the extension housing off, I lightly dropped the tranny from like 3" to get them to seperate, I probably broke the transmisssion.

Hmmm not likely. They are well built and i would imagine they can take a bit more than that type of abuse.

I'm so disappointed with this SPEC clutch. My friend bought one at the same time i did, and his car wouldn't go into gear after installing it, they pulled it apart 3 times and it still wouldn't work. They're getting a refund. This is a great clutch, It's this tapping noise that's getting to me.. WTF! I'm gonna pull EVERYTHING apart this time.. this will be my 3rd tranny within a month! I read my Haynes and it said that a Squeal or Rummble when the clutch is released... it could be improper Pedal adjustment, release bearing bind on transmission shaft, Clutch rivets loose (Are rivets the Mounting bolts?) what are clutch rivets? It could also be Clutch Plate Cracked, Fatigued clutch plate torsion springs. Also if the transmission is Noisy in Nuetral it could be the Input shaft bearing worn, Damaged main drive gear bearing, Insufficient Tranny oil, Tranny oil is poor condition, It could Possibly change by variants in engine torque. Change the idle speed and see if the noise disappears.
