The case of a opossum getting rabies is EXTREMELY rare because their blood isn't warm enough. Playing dead is involuntary as well, it's kinda like if you fainted...
They won't attack usually, they just look mean as hell.
do some research before you start trying to kill an animal that is lazy and doens't like making it's own home, so it finds another warmer place (like your house).

They are delicious kinda chewy but in a stew nothing can beat a fat juicy Opossum! (I kill them beacause they drag my trash everywhere & cause the dog eats them)
