Fact:

Goverment only subzidizes .50/gallon. Which if you remove the subzidy, put the price at exactly what 87 octane water is selling for on a per gallon basis.

Stick to what ever you want but please stick with facts and not heresay or speculation.

<-- E85 since 2005 here and no issues. AT ALL.

as IJ stated, Carb is ok but the granular control of both timing AND injection is only possible with electronics in the mix. No way that is happening on a carb setup.

oops, you caught me :), I didn't mean to compare the race fuel price to ethanol (I know the ethanol is still way cheaper). I was trying to say it would be the same price as pump fuel.

I need to add my 2cents.

First of all, blow-thru "technology" (if you want to call it that) has come quite a ways, there are TONS of properly tuned turbo-carb'd vehicles out there nowadays. That being said, theyre mostly v8s which is nicer for the less precise atomization of a carb. Second, those split-domitators you posted are not set up for boost, and even if they were, it would make for a strange "hat" on top of it, plus the fact that 3 of them woudl be too big. Now for the guy that suggested a 1050cfm dominator, please do some research. Carbs act MUCH bigger than they actually are under boost. There are many v8s making over 1000whp on a 650cfm blow-thru.

That being said, i will be doing a blow-thru on my chevelle whenever i get around to it, and this forum... http://www.theturboforums.com/smf/index.php?PHPSESSID=2ab7fa38872d72779b487b65b66cc5c0&board=13.0 is a valuable resource for blow thru. If i were to do this on a supra (and dont think it hasnt crossed my mind) i would make the intake mani so that it goes from 6 adjacent runners..

0 0 0 0 0 0

..sweeps up 90* towards the hood, and ends up in 2 rows of 3 to help get them tighter together for the relatively small carb flange, like this...

Now also keep in mind, that as IJ said, a proper programmable ignition control (such as the MSD digital 7programmable) is about $800, plus about $1000 for the carb, plus mani fabrication, plus welding up the injector bungs in the head, plus a crank trigger, plust the carb hat, plus jets, plus powervalves....blah blah blah.

It would be super interesting, and i would appreciate the standing-out-from-the-crowd aspect, but at the same time, you gotta think when it might be just too much...

(god i should take my own advice.....) ;)

what the big deal about e85? it takes MORE fuel to create the same amount of combustion that gasoline does, so in essence you make more power, but you suck even MORE fuel in. just go get some 100 octance, or some 110 leaded race gas...

E85 is a band wagon thing just because people get more power from it doesnt mean its better...

but anything is possible with time, money, and a lot of knowledge. IJ truly knows his shit, and he probably could make something run of breast milk.

Do you know anything about alcohol based fuels?

or just going off of everything you read about the cons?

And YES E85 FTW!

It's not as hard as people think it is for the Supra.

Once you go standalone that is. :biglaugh:

Thanks Again Figgie! ;)

I will answer it this way.

If you are looking at E85 for MPG. Look elsewhere. Just like people running race gas all the time in the car. MPG is the least of the concerns. Keeping the engine from blowing is the #1 priority.

You make perfect sense, thank you!

as of now im still undecided wether im gonna go through with this or go standalone! ill be talking to a few guys that i know that specialize in this, that will be fabbing up the intake and tunning it for me!

i dont know what it is about supraforums people though their just so negative about everything, but over here if someone agrees/disagrees they come through with facts and useful information that would actually help!!

Anyways i thank everyone that responded to the thread so far! and i still have more investigatin to do before i pull this off>

Welp came to the decision that im not going to go carb! im gonna be sticking with the standalone.

i figured i would finish it alot faster, it would be less work for me since i already have all the piping routed and everything hooked up, and ill have it full out ready to go when spring hits! . all i need is the standalone and a driveshaft and my car will be done . oh and some tuning ofcourse lol

that way ill be making it to the texas meet next summer! , gonna be a long drive but well worth it :)
