thermal blanket removal

Newbie question: How do you remove the thermal blanket under the hood? Dose it come off without damaging the fasteners??
Where can I get one, thats in good shape?

I'm with poodles on this one, new OEM is about the only way to go. All the ones at the junk yards usualy fall apart in one way or another upon removal, but you may get lucky. Just those round clips IIRC hold it on.

The clips are available and cheap from Toyota.

Yup, very cheap.

If you slip two flatheads under them, or use sidecutters (slide it under, don't squeeze) and use it to pry up you might be able to save a few but it doesn't really matter.

You can find a few good ones from scrap cars or part outs.

That hood liner is good stuff btw, it doesn't burn. But on that note nothing beats OEM toyota, great quality and made for our cars.

Oh I know turbos get much hotter. But with a sheild and what not, I'm sure not that much radiates but I honestly don't know. Who wants to be the first to try it:naughty:

i was gonna say ive temp gunned shit on my motor after running it and its been over 225 and im n/a.

The thermal blanket keeps heat in...

That tar will melt above the turbo, possibly running onto the turbo and DP that can get well above that tars flash point. I have seen that stuff melt on a Honda with a Mitsu turbo...it wasn't pretty.

You know what I like better? Vents in the hood to remove the heat

i agree with th vents (heat extractors)vs an insulator but it could eventualy fade the paint on the hood.to get the clips out use a pannel poper for door pannels works good.
